I also installed some springs from the hardware store on the hood hinges. I removed the originals years ago because they were too much for the fiberglass hood and they were causing it to bow. I still need a prop rod with the new springs, but it's so much easier to lift open.

Now I'm changing the rear diff fluid, replacing the header gaskets and cleaning the idle circuit on that damned Edelbrock carb. The idle circuit has been an intermittent problem for the last 10 years. Stupid Edelbrock carb, lol @78C10BigTen

I'm loving the barn and garage setup! It's soooo nice being able to put everything away out of the weather and I can pull anything indoors to work on it if I need to. And there's lights and electric! And concrete! None of that dirt floor BS or working in grass like I used to.

Reinstalled the door panels tonight after I learned there is in fact a right and a left door lock!

Pay no attention to the boogered up paint there on the edge of the door. The drivers side is better, lol. Yes those are finger prints in the paint….lol.

I washed the crew cab. Like, actually scrubbed it, for the first time in who knows how long. I even scrubbed the roof and the bed liner. Normally I just hose it down. I noticed more rust creeping up on the driver's side. Paint is still super dull, lol. I parked it in the "garage" side of the barn so it will stay clean for the truck show this weekend.

I would hesitate in starting sometime so I found I needed to clean battery posts.

So I cleaned and put some hose washers on it because the positive post had some melting on the bottom.

SO i've been pushing this around for a while now, but was always hesitant. Pretty much ever since i got my truck, i wanted to swap the mirrors on it to the famous basic Square Body mirrors. Now yes, i understand that my mirrors were most likely factory for the Camper Special package and it is quite special but i'm over it. I want to do it just like my brother's truck, who already has the mirrors i want, but there are some things holding me back. I think it really comes down to "the curse of having a super clean truck". If it was patinaed and worn, yeah i would do it in a heartbeat. But here, there will most likey be slight surface rust or imperfections under the mirror hardware. And all the extra holes. really wouldn't be able to get away with it unless i ended up doing some work and repainting the entire doors, if not truck. I think it may be far-fetched and out of reach to change the mirrors. Any possible thoughts?

Personally I like the dumbo mirrors (top pic) better, that's what most of my trucks have. Just my style. But I'm also of the "if it ain't broke dont fix it" mentality for the the most part.
I'd say if you had a good reason or good opportunity go for it. Like if the truck was getting a paint job, or the doors were damaged or rusty, or if you mirrors go real damaged, then change them. Or just run it with the 3 extra holes and the scuffs and dont worry.
Just my personal opinion.
I think your truck is awesome either way.

There was a guy in town who swapped from west coast mirrors to the Dumbo style. He painted some very flat headed bolts or plugs red to match and filled the extra holes. Took me weeks of ogling the truck to finally notice them lol.

@Powerhouse Ranch - Luke, @Soundmound - Dave gives good advice on this. I've seen it done both with push plugs and something that has like a tiny carriage bolt type head, you know round. Painted and nearly not noticeable. I guess it's all about what your willing to tolerate. @AyWoSch Motors I kind of think along the same lines you do, but will add this. My Dodge truck had two factory options, fixed mounted mirror housing and dumbos. I had the fixed. The second time I ripped off one of the fixed mount I converted to Dumbo. My square has dumbos and they are the factory mirror. The thing I like the most about them is you bump them and they fold. There is a tight spot getting out to some of the coops where there is just about 6" of clearance on either side truck. It'll fit, but it's easy to bump a mirror. Really nice to have them fold, not break or bend the bracketry or door. With that said I actually like the look of the west coast junior mirrors, or the camper special mirrors, and when I have a load blocking the back window of the truck, and the trailer behind it, it sure would be nice to have that much mirror, but I have a set of those towing mirrors that slip on to the dumbos which helps a bit.

Wow LMC truck sells factory reproduction dumbo mirrors, with a heating element added. That would be nice when I have to make my winter run over the pass. $129.99 for a set.

That's one of my favorite reasons. They just fold in, no harm done.i love that. Have done it on small trees around here. Also that I like the way they look better.

I hadn't thought of the filler bolt idea, that's pretty good.
A nice chrome carriage bolt, or something color matched would be perfect. Especially if you ever wanted to go back to that someday in the future. Good thought.

Ouch, that's a bit. I payed $20 for a near perfect oem set I got at the junkyard..

I agree, the new reproduction dumbos are $27 each, so they are more than twice the price. I probably won't get them given the cost and my mirrors are in good shape and are OE GM units, vs if I had to bet the reproduction units probably aren't as good a quality. But heat would be handy at times.
