Car cruise numero 3 of the summer. MEGACRUISE! Flew old glory off the back this time. I missed the 4th of July.

Got a new distributor finally, and today I got it installed. It works way better than the old one, doesn't tick. Got it timed to about 10-12° TDC, sounds perfect.
Also got the new clutch and pressure plate installed.

Pulled the truck around, getting it ready for the install. Washed the engine bay, and fogged it in flat black to clean it up. Didnt go too fancy, just wanted to hit the areas that I wont be able to reach later. I'll do a better job someday, but for now its cleaner.

Just routine maintenance today. Changed the tranny fluid. Actually what I did was a suck and fill with a 12 volt pump I own. I pull the pan and change the filter every 15K but in between if I feel it needs it I'll do a quick suck and fill to get some old fluid out and fresh in. It's a 700R4 and does plenty of work hauling and towing (with cooler and gauge of course) but still.

Then changed the engine oil and lubed all the zerk fittings.

Finally I pulled the #7 spark plug. This was the cylinder that was fouling every 100 miles or so with oil. So now nearly 3,000 miles since the intake manifold gasket replacement it looks clean and good. What's better is I'd only used about 3/4 of a quart of engine oil in that 3,000 miles. Pretty good for old 305 of unknown mileage!

I blurred the plug pic a little bit but I think you can clearly see the colors look good!

After 208,000 klm and a few Hundred passes down the 1/4 mile (7 on last Friday) the th350C transmission is out of the truck for the first time in its life. It was still working well but I rebuilt a different th350 and adding a stall converter so I can have more fun at the track. I will freshen up the original trans and keep it in case I don’t want the stall and hard shifts and put it back in.

I looked at it and seriously considered pulling it out of where it's been parked for the last month and parking it back on the paved driveway. I'll do that tomorrow or Tuesday, poor thing.

I like those GMC grills so much better than the Chevy's. If I was to go all cobb on my truck, I'd put one on with a bowtie where the GMC is. I've already got a complex just labelling my Scottsdale a Silverado.

Me too, that's my favorite grill of them all.

my tallgate has the lower band as well. It's held by self tapping screws. Be nice to eliminate those screws.

I started on some minor routine maintenance over the weekend that of course went south on me. I am positive that the gear oil in the front differential is what the factory put in it in 1987. So I got a new gasket from O'Reilly's and some fresh synthetic gear oil and attacked it. Of course the face plate didn't want to come off and then the gasket would NOT come off the face plate. I spent quite a bit of time with my drill and a wire brush getting it cleaned up.

That's when I discovered that the rear faceplate and the front faceplate are NOT the same. The differentials look the same...but they are not. Idiot. So I had O'Reilly's order the right gasket and I picked it up after work today. And I wasn't about to wait for the weekend to finish that job so...

I replaced the throw out bearing on the transmission today while I still have access to it. Did some more engine bay painting too.

Also reclocked the distributor one tooth clockwise, so it's not hitting the intake, and the plug is almost parallel with the back of the engine now. Re-timed it again, set it a little higher. Seems to like it. Sounds perfectly dialed in now. Purrs like a kitten.
Got the homemade run stand all disassembled, coolant drained, all the "in the way" stuff removed, and it chained up ready to go in.
Took the brand new distributor cap and wires off so they dont get hurt, put the old cap back on just for installation, incase it gets damaged. Also hooked the radiator hoses together, so when when putting it in at an angle, it doesnt piss all over me and the truck.

Haven't done much. Concentrating on my '11 Camaro SS for autocrossing.

Taillights don't work, dash not installed properly, aftermarket cruise not working, carb running way to rich, more....

I'll get around to it soon?

Later.
