Picked up a tailgate with a decent shape GMC trim panel today. You know, to further the sex change of my truck back to what he was born with, lol.
Tried a little resto on it.
400 or 600 grit does/did a nice job of shining up the andonizing, but little for the minor scratches and nothing for the pitting. And it burned through a couple high spots pretty quick.
Tried a pad sander and 240 grit to see if I could strip it all off. No love there. 3 rounds of paper, wet sanding and it won’t take all the andonizing off in the “low” spots.
And a lot of the pitting and a couple dings won’t come out.
Tried a little piece of vinyl wrap over the area with dings and pitting. It didn’t telegraph through.
Think I’m going to wrap it in brushed aluminum vinyl wrap.
Anyone need a 1980 GMC tailgate? No rust!

And fixed the stupid dome light issue I’ve been having.
After chasing my tail, found someone had put the wrong type of bulb in the cargo lamp. Have spent 6 hours or more chasing a 5 minute fix...

Beautiful man!!!!!! Dang she sounds nice, what mufflers are you running on it? They resemble the sound of a thrush/flowmaster...

Put on the Coverking seat cover today that came in the mail. Took about 20 minutes but the fit is very snug, would definitely recommend this product if you have a seat in halfway decent shape. Cushion on the bottom is a nice touch as well I was not expecting.

As a note, under those sticky mats they give (the white things in the left picture) there was several strips of foam missing in the seat but not gaping holes through the bottom or anything. The cushion kind of smoothed that out nicely.

Coverking is the brand

You can enter your truck to make sure it is the right fit. Also can choose different colors if you want. They say it's custom made but I got mine pretty fast

Ordered all new screws and nuts for the front grille. Because I'm tired of wood screws holding it on from po.

Just ordered 2 new AcDelco window motors that will be here tomorrow. 5 bucks cheaper than Lmc wants and free shipping. Probably saved $40.

Anyone replace theirs that could give me some tips? Never done this and I hear it's a bitch. Lol
