Melted off again eh? How many times now?? Is it over/under how many times @78C10BigTen has left his lights on and needed a jump?

Don't think I've ever had a car that didn't have the mirror mounted to the glass.

I think this makes the 3rd time.

Japanese, well, the 4RUNNER, and the old RamChargers had them mounted like that.

Don't melt and fall down ...

Not even the hottest day we have had, either.

Got this today - crappy pic, but this is beige compared to a white receipt.

However, when compared to the old tattered, dirty headliner it seems to match up well !:waytogo:

Dammit, always forget about some of the older Japanese cars. Oddly the newest one I've had has the mirror on the glass. Devolving apparently.

You never knocked a mirror off with your head, just me?

Mine fell off years ago. My fix was to buy a louvered headache rack. Now I don’t miss it as much. Won’t help the burb though...

Have any of you guys having mirror problems ever gone to a glass shop and let them glue the piece on?

What's it cost - any idea ? $ 3.99 for the Permatex kit at OReallys, and the ability to bitch when it doesn't work = PRICELESS.:dogpile:

You got me there. You'd probably have $10 into it and nothing to talk about at your local glass shop. It just struck me funny that this has been an ongoing issue with a lot of guys and not one has mentioned letting a professional have a crack at it.

I don't know how you do it. Aside from the blank space on the windshield looking funny, I use that constantly. I look at that mirror almost as much as the oil pressure & temp gauges ...

Lost a motor on the Sub in HS that the symptom was weak oil pressure. Years later on the '91 I ran a science experiment as the TBI 350 was doing the same thing. Ran 10W40 ( I think ) Royal Purple and was getting maybe 30 psi on the highway.

When the motor died, it died after it was parked and I had made it home. Crank broke.

Ran under it's own power to the shop :p to get another motor, but it sounded like a midget was under the hood with a sledgehammer and had sawzalled the exhaust.

There was NO QUESTION that something was wrong.

My 76 doesn't have a mirro. My 76 parts truck does however, and it is on the seat so it fell off at some point.

I wonder if wiping down the glass with DX330 (wax/grease remover I use prior to painting), and using 600 grit on the aluminum part that glues to the windshield, then us the DX on that too with proper adhesive if it would stay? Maybe the aluminum is contaminated with something, throw it in the oven on a tray and bake it for a while??....

Red Green would use duct tape if all else failed :D

Just saw this - no, not a mirror that I can recall. Broke a clay pot that was hanging as a kid with my head , and have raised up many times right in to an open cabinet door or furniture ledge ( explains a lot ) but not a mirror.

yet ...

I think this is the stuff I used this time - comes with a cleaner pad. Scraped the metal button with a retractable putty knife as well as the windshield then followed the directions. Says to use the cleaner on the windshield and the button - I think I did the button 1st - then let it sit for a minute to dry before gluing.

Pressure on the button after gluing for 1 minute, and leave it along for a half hour.

I left it alone for about 45 minutes.

Time will tell.

$3.99 at OReallys :flame: but I did not pay shipping … :D

*Edit* Thought it said $ 2.99 on Amazon - now, I do not see that. meh.
