The older dashes have better options with aftermarket gauges....IMO.
They look better too, and the dash doesn’t crack nearly as bad, check out stormin Norman tank thread got a lot of things going on, just waiting on parts…

I was wondering how long GM used those tower clamps... and I see that they made at least 1980. My 1986 has the usual gear clamps, and I think? that might be what it came with?
1992 is when gm went to the constant tension clamps for trucks

I did a whole lot more exhaust work this weekend. I just need to brace the tail pipes (where the red ratchet straps are) and then I am almost done! I have to also put on my electric cutouts.

Never used band clamps before, they worked great and cinched up very nice! I did not want to take down the pipes to the headers to weld these pieces together, so this is what I did instead.

Updating the 79 to an 81-87 by modifying the upper front cab corners and putting patch panels in from an 85 instead of dads hack job from 20 years that cut into bracing - ******* old man theory 60feet or 60miles no one can tell the difference lol

Well, today, I fabbed up some bracketry on my c10, to chain the drivers side of the motor down so the sob would quit twisting so much when I laid on it. Now the body and frame is all flexy when I stand on it lol

Following that, a while back I picked up beauty rings for free!

And maybe a month ago, I picked up center caps for I think 20$?

So today, I drilled and tapped the wheels to accommodate the center caps.

Looks decent.

Did a lil' tuning on the holley sniper, got it at a steady 13.5 or so AFR, nice rapid throttle response, and a reasonable 15 in/hg

Idles right, and returns back to idle after romping it. Still have some tuning to do, but does ok.

Also figured out why I had a battery drain, the alternator regulator was running constantly, I mistakenly hooked up a constant 12v to the alternator wire... I must admit, my mistake in this is, the harness is the original 1979 harness, and I'm running serpentine drive, so the alternator is a little newer generation, so I had to do a little cutting and splicing.

Either way, I got it corrected, thanks @bucket For the alternator diagram

On the todo list is to wire up a momentary switch for the kickdown of the th400, straighten up the interior, put the dash back together, and hideaway the holley sniper LCD screen back in the ash tray so from the outside it looks like a mostly stock 79, (folded hood and all)

I do wanna install some of those cool halo ring headlights , but we'll get there.

Edit: yes, the headers are bolted down, the actual primary protrudes slightly from the mounting flange

No leaks.

Probably.... but that motor was interestingly EXTREMELY hard to get bolted into the frame, I had use a prybar on 1 motor mount and pick the side up, and stand (literally, stand) on the the drivers side of the motor to get the other bolt to go thru.

Unlikely I'm taking it back out until I explode it.... which after that, it'll get a blower and some bigger heads.

So for now, redneck chain it is.

Jacked up, lined up, and bolted together all the body panels on the front of my 78/85 k10/20, so I can see what I'm working with and to lift the sprits a bit. Hasn't looked even have way like a truck on quite a long time. Starting to look like something. Hopefully I can get the cab on before winter.

Its fitting that I gave "Frankenstein" a face on Halloween eve, haha.

Also gutted and cleaned out a set of doors a guy here in town wants to buy.

alternator has 4 wire plug and external fan.

i am saying it could use a 4 wire plug unit with 2 internal fans :)
the internal fan one takes RPM and better output at idle better :::))))

I got to work with google sketch up and ported a few other models (The TIV is actually a completely original model by me unlike the rest)

Made the appointment to get a new set of tires for the truck...
Thursday they will get installed and we shall be golden for going everywhere again.
They are a bit more than I wanted to spend, but they will last very easily for the next 10 years I have the truck. They are going to be the load range E tires that are 10 ply, the 6 ply tires are only $8 less per tire.

They will be plenty of tire for the truck as it will rarely be off road and mostly paved road driven as far as I can see into the future for it.

I do like the little teeth that are molded into the edges...
