Installed new rear shocks. This time for a lifted truck!!

Wow what a difference the rears made. The fronts were great but the rears replaced it doesn't buck you out of a dip or bump like it did.

Rides like a new truck now!! New leaf sprung truck!

Took a little 100mile round trip to go get two hoods, one is a 79-80 and the other is a 73-78. the 79-80 is essentially rust free and both are not bent. Now I have a hood for my 79 and only cost $50 for both and half a tank of gas.

Tried chasing vacuum lines - no good way to know which one is which off the thermal vacuum switch as the hard connector that plugs into it is not labeled.

The switch may be - not taking that off in the dark by trouble light with it hot.:Nonono:

Instead, hooked a vacuum gauge to the EGR hose and no vacuum at idle, vaccuum when you rev .

Dunno if the EGR valve is working, but it is getting vacuum.

Tried the hose that WAS hooked to the EFE- still vacuum when engine is hot.

Decided to try the other solo hose off the 4 line TVS- no vacuum while hot.

Flipped the lines- try to test it for vacuum cold tomorrow at lunch.

EFE does help it warm up, but sucks when it is on while warm.

Oh, yeah - bought a chaser for the plug threads yesterday.

Have not used it, but I got it. :naughty:

Nice score!

What kind of fuel mileage did you get this trip ?
Not sure how big the tank is on a pickup so I can't ballpark it.

Got my 89 burb Running fairly right, new fuel pump, trans fluid and filter, oil and oil filter, pass side caliper, I took the top end of the tbi unit apart and cleaned out all the debris and junk, new o rings, seals and screens and all.
I discovered yet ANOTHER issue.... PCV valve has no vaccuum on the inlet of the tbi unit, some sort of garbage in it.... So I guess I'm going to have to completely take it off, use the rest of the rebuild kit, and thoroughly clean it out....
Sure as hell didn't feel like 333hp and 385 ft ibs, poor throttle response, no top end, funky idle, once I go thru the tbi unit, I'll see how she does.

Not really sure, my 76 has 20 gallon tanks, but I'm thinking around 10-12.
About 100 miles with slow hills and then I romped on it on the highway on the way back, got up to 107. Started with just a little less than full and ended at right above half tank.

Changed all four headlight adjustment screws and plastic nuts. Broke one tab off the headlight mount bracket. Took one from parts truck.

Water temperature ran up to 240F. Changed thermostat. Was a 180, replaced with a 180. Housing gasket now leaks. Get to do it all over again.

When I replaced my t stat a year or so ago I did it. It leaked. I redit it with silicone, let it cute per label and it leaked. Bought new housing , no problem!

I once went about insane dealing with thermostat housing leaks, tried flattening both mating surfaces, different sealers with gaskets. Always ended up leaking again. When I pulled the engine out to do my hop up, bought a new GM housing from summit for under $10 and haven't had any issues since.

Or if you can find a cast iron water neck those work even better.

Well, I'm going to get a new thermostat neck with the threaded hole on top. I'll put in it a twist drain thing.

Did it on my racecar. It is good for bleeding air when filling, I believe.

Other than that it will be a good conversation piece.

This is a “to do at a later date when time permits” sorta thing. Been almost 2 years trying to make this happen, but since this isn’t a have to have item, things in life would come up and I would’ve never felt fight getting this while neglecting something else. I totally changed the interior last winter (never posted pics yet because it isn’t finished). Just now had the time to unbox it and mock it in before my son came over. The look on his face was worth it. All I need now is a lot of measuring to extend the new console, time, a lot of measuring to fit it in where it will be comfortable, and more time. Just in case I have mentioned it yet, I need ALOT of time. Hope to add to the soon.
