Well I was able to get the 84 started today by spraying ether in the carb. But it would not idle if I let off the gas. So I cranked the idle screw in all the way and let it warm up. As it did I had to turn it back out. While doing that I noticed the alternator belt was lose and that was the cause of the volt Meyer fluctuation. So tightened it but still seems to wiggle a lot but it's tight.
I think the edelbrock carb is crap. I've never liked them because mine have always sucked. Think I might put a quadrajet on it instead. If it sits for a little while it's hard to start and keep idling. Here's a couple of videos of the problems.
