Got one side apart completely. Now the question is do I really want to take on bushing replacement for the leaf springs on a Saturday? Hmm.

If you got a drill and a big vise or press it aint too bad.
Drill the snot out of the rubber and even the crusty-est bushings are pretty easy to knock out.

Yeah- I’m sure it’s time. Question is where to get them from- shipping is almost as much as one pack of springs. Summit will ship free but it takes two weeks to get them per the website.

I'd check Ebay, Jegs, Rockauto just about any of them will have them, unfortueately your probably not going to find anybody that will have them in stock. Are you wanting to go with Rubber, or Polyurethane?

Hey, just ordered them from Summit. Just standard Dorman stuff- no need for poly bushings. Upside is free shipping, downside is it’s special order. It’ll be a little while, so that’ll give me a chance to buzz off the old rear bump stops, get the rear end ready to go, then I’ll switch to the front and get that done in the meantime.

The torque setting is tight. If it locks up the pulley you need a spacer behind the pulley.
It was this^. When I pulled off the alternator the plastic fan was pushed up against the alternator. With a mixture of washers and spacers I got tight without pushing the fan back. Noticed with the motor turning clockwise the fan blades seem to be in the wrong direction.

I'm guessing it's pulling air through the back of the alternator? Instead of pushing air through the front?

I'm not either but it does its job and keeps it from over heating. The old 305 shroud was too big so I had to get this one. It's supposed to be for a bbc.

Got the 427 officially in and bolted down, got the wiring figured out and repaired. It cranks off the key now.
Got the waterpump/alternator pulley routing figured out. Also got the manifolds in, and plugs in. Got alot of small chit to do now..

I'll be careful not to get it too tight this time. Is there a torque setting for these I wonder? :emotions34:

I know I'm late with this reply. To tighten the pulley, you just sit the alternator on the bench, no vise. You hold the pulley and fan with one hand, one bump with the 1/2" air gun. You stop when you feel pain or see blood.

That's correct. They're a centrifugal pump just like the water pump. If you ran it backwards it would still move air from the center to the outside, just less efficiently.

Got the grill back in. Getting ready for an inspection and start driving it. Yay!

You can't tell in the picture bit only the halo lights are on when just running lights are on. The second has the lights on. It's hard to tell the difference.

The bottom one glows a little with the lights on. Need to fix that or maybe let my mechanic fix it. Lol
