I've been welding for decades. Started with oxy/acetylene then stick. That was before mig was available. Got a mig in 2002. Never had training, don't claim particular skill. Nonetheless, I've gotten to where I usually do good work. Still, sheet metal can give me fits. I keep playing with the settings until it seems to work. As said, clean, bare metal is IMPERATIVE.

Buffing wheel, weld through primer, panel bond and spot welds. Works like a charm for changing complete quarter panels and bed sides. As if you will find out that is all that holds most vehicles together.
