vinyl floor replacement help/opinions wanted

my 85 k20 has a vinyl floor in it, it needs replacing.

it looks to have a backing or padding.

i have an LMC catalog but i'm not sure what they offer is what i have/want.

has anyone replaced a factory vinyl floor with aftermarket?
if so, what did you use and where did you get it?



i'm 99% set on vinyl rather than put in carpet.
i'm waffling over a 'dynamat' layer since i don't know how well a vinyl floor would fit on top of that.

I too want to go with vinyl, as my truck is used for plowing snow and gets a lot of snow tracked in. I was interested in the 1/8 MIP polyvinyl mat, but would also like to hear from someone that has actually used one. The factory rubber mats in my truck wore out a long time ago.

I used a floor mat from vendor Capt Kaos (on the 67-72 board). It was thick and molded to fit my high hump configuration.

I ordered one originally from somewhere else (I'm afraid I don't recall where) and it was awful. Thin, and not molded. I sent it back and got the one mentioned from Capt Kaos.

if you have trouble finding a good one, try rockauto. I just got carpet from there, its from ACC, good stuff and a bit cheaper then most places.

I have put in 3. One in a 60's GMC pickup that turned out real well. 2 in squarebody suburbans. They didn't turn out as well. The MIP didn't seem molded as well as the pickup...but they do the job.

Mine were from "action carpet" or similar. I bet they are all made in the same plant.
there are several youtube videos on installation. Make sure you do it on as hot a day as possible. The mats are oversized and real hard to work with when cold. Lay them in the sun till they are 90 degrees or better. Have a sharp razor knife to trim. A 1 inch hole saw works well to cut anchor bolt holes. Run it in reverse in your drill.

my kits came with backing, similar to jute. You can add carpet backing if you want more padding.

I also put a molded in my k5 and fit great. It had the jut backing installed. Well worth the money especially when it got dirty.

I put an NOS ( Military surplus) rubber floor mat in the '76 K25, fits nice but needs something like jute underneath.

this has alleviated some of my hesitance with replacing the flooring.

i don't think i want to spend the extra on the 'dynamat' though.
it cost as much as the flooring!

As an aside - I did my 2004 Silverado HD too.

There was enough dog hair in the carpet I replaced that I could have made another dog.

i would spring for the dynamat, heat and sound reduction just makes the whole driving experience better. Icon and all of the pro builders use it. quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten.

qsl, i found a more affordable 'brand' than the lmc dynamat style product.

i will definitely be using some form of dynamat to lay the jute/vinyl over.

Forgot where I bought my vinyl floor cover, but it covers the entire floor with jute padding running back to the front of the seats. I had to trim it a lot at the front, but better that than not enough material. Recently, I actually replaced the jute padding with insulation (The Insulator) on top of sound deadening material (Noico). The cab is very quiet now and I haven't put sound deadening on the doors yet.
