I recently bought a '87 V10. When I got it the transfer bezel wasnt attached, just sitting around the lever. The lever was in 4L and the bezel wouldn't reach forward enough to be in the correct place. And the lever wasn't in the clear plastic guide. I tried to put it through the clear guide but it won't fit. It will go down maybe an inch or two. And I dont see any housing for the bezel to attach to. Am I missing something? Is there a trick to getting the lever through the clear guide? This is a picture of my bezel.
Thank you!!

This plate should be on your floor, it has tabs for the cover to mount to. All you have to do to get it over the shift lever is unscrew the shift knob and it should slide right in anywhere in that slot

They may have changed the covers or shafts slightly. Mine is an 84 and looks to be the exact same as the one you have pictured

Thank you!! I dont have either one of those plates. They're missing. Could you take a picture of the shifter from the side? Mine gets flat like a rectangle and that's why it wont go into the clear guide.

This is all the farther I can get the clear plastic guide on. I don't want to snap it. If I turn it sideways it will go all the way down but I can't turn it back. Is there a trick I'm missing?

This is all i have under the plastic bezel. No metal housing with clips, no metal guide. Guess I'm ordering those.

Mine is apart right now while I restore, I'll take some pics.
The shifter looks different.

What transfer case do you have?
Should be a NP208, then went to a NP241 in 89 - 91 for Sub and K5 with right had driveshaft.

That looks like an NP 203 shifter on an NP 208.

Rohuie, you're first 2 pictures of the bezel are exactly what I have but I'm missing the bottom metal house and guide. Is your lever round all the way down? Mine starts round then becomes a rectangle and I can't get it into the clear guide.
And thank you for the pictures.
I have no idea what transfer I have. This is my first truck and the guy I bought it off of only had it 5 months. So she's a bit of a mystery and there is some questionable work that's been done in the past. How would I find out which transfer case it has?

Yes it's completely round.
I almost think you have the np 203/5 transfer case or at least the shifter as @Snoots mentioned.
The np208 should look like this:

I’m positive my shifter handle is round all the way to the bottom, you either have a different transfer case or shift lever, than what came originally.
