Can someone shed some light on this monstrosity of a heater hose routing.

Rad to heater core with tee to intake manifold

Heater core to water pump

This seems janky to say the least.

Not sure what the line to rad is for, maybe it had a secondary return line for whatever reason.

I’m thinking capping the intake port and flowing rad in pump out or vice versa.

I’m not super mechanically inclined so the help I get on here is amazing and greatly appreciated

If your lines are not leaking, you are at worst going to causew noise in your heater hoses and core and wear it out faster and wear our your water pump and potentialyl cavitate fluid.
At best it would work fine. I would leave it

then the hose looks sus i would advise replace that length of hose and the other one. you need both sizes of hose, then just get some spring style clamkps and they will be good for years
Your hoses are also too short for factory routing. factory they clip to the fender.

I will swap the hoses out. From the second image it looks like auto trans should be rad to core core to manifold. Eliminating the water pump connection. I feel this would block the heater core off till the thermostat opens though

So, is there supposed to be a third nipple from the core for that line?

The diagram is showing the water pump connection its just a little far over.

see the water pump in the pic and the intake

The split of the hose, done here, is factory, you can reuse the pipe you have to T into the line to the water pump.
