@kzguns I don't know. I do know that I wouldn't want to ride that vehicle after he fixed if he ever fixes it. To shrug off that stuff was destroyed upon removal is beyond me. I wouldn't be shrugging it off, I would pissed off at myself for doing it, and in the process of finding replacements after the destruction.

The torque converter holds to the flex plate . That “bellhousing” is just a sheild why the name transfer case , it’s redundant reinforcement . My current lawn mower engine is held down by just 1 bolt (new deck old motor) the old deck rusted out and the 25 year old motor only has one good mounting bolt but runs like a top

Exactly why I prefer convertibles! All the extra metal and added weight of the roof is just a "sheild." Who knew?

I asked here a few times what I needed to do to pull the motor and was told here the engine mounts and the flywheel to torque bolts were the last thing I needed to pull the engine. People will learn from this. I didn’t reject advices I did what I was suggested . I never got the memo on how many bolts I needed to separate the engine from the trans properly I got some great info here just wasn’t all the way. Now I believe my f up will help others I’ll probably send the truck off to the crusher or take my chances rebuilding it I really don’t know if it’s worth it now

The correct answer for how many bolts you have to remove:

All of them.



The answer really is as simple as that. You look with your own eyes and make sure there's nothing that was overlooked. If/when the engine doesn't want to come out, go looking for whatever fastener, hose or wiring you missed. Don't just yank harder. THAT is the lesson you should learn. NOT "nobody told me about the other bolts".

@Hugomartin This falls on you for not checking to make sure the engine was unbolted from the transmission. Yes, both engine and transmission can be removed together at the same time, but you plan for that.

At this point, in all your frustration, it would be easier to get a replacement engine and transmission. The engine was probably going to need to be replaced anyhow.

I mean... there are MANY youtube videos out there with step-by-step instructions on all of this. Its hard for anyone to give you an off-the-cuff written direction on how to do this. You could have also gotten the true step-by-step directions from the factory service manuals... also available for free on this forum under the reference library.

If it were up to me I’d have no more than a 3 to5 page service manual to properly hoist the Chevy 350 engine 1987 and then I would give thanks to that holy Chevy cross emble

I wrote on here once there are cheap manuals on ebay,even if they aren't for your particular year and model. This is a 4.00 ebay Haynes manual,butter knife to butter knife covers rem9val and installation step by step.I never saw you ask for step by step engine r&r,and I don't think you bothered to buy yourself a manual. I don't mind helping somebody,but man you gotta put some effort in too.

Late to the party. But stop and go to youtube. Theres loads of content around old chevys.

Dont trash the truck cuz the drivetrain is toast. Unless the truck is rusted to hell.

Like someone else said, comparing a lawnmower to a truck just isnt applicable.

You have the engine out, tear it down all the way. Just to learn.

Derrick of Vice Grip Garage (youtube channel) just posted a step by step today of how to tear down a sbc and determine if it's busted or good to be rebuilt.
