Steering gear support

Plan to add a steering gear support to my k5.

Have seen the ORD bolt on here:

Pros and Cons from any that have done this?

Pros they both do what they are meant to.

Cons- Umm, you have to either weld or bolt em on. Lol

I've done the weld on one on a few trucks. Easy if you know how to weld.

Sometimes the brake proportioning valve/lines are in the way. A few fixes here, depends where it is. Sometimes slotting the mounting holes will allow you to move the valve down a bit and another option is to trim a little metal off the bracket.

The bolt on is meant for ones without any cracks, if you have cracks those have to be fixed, and most likely use the weld on plate.

I plan to do both. I kow mines cracked, has been welded, needs some more work on the outside, so I got the smittybuilt plate to weld on. Once done I was going to get the ord bolt on extra protection.

No cracks in my frame.

If both are equally good...
It's time vs money then. Either less cost with more time for the plate or more money less time for the brace.

I prefer the older version.

If you know yours aint broke now bolt on

I would strongly suggest you remove the box and check. I had to sand the frame on my 83 to find it but we've had 2wds broke there.

I don't know if there is a weld on repair for the rwd. I know that the bolt on braces are available for 2 and 4wd.
