Are spacers needed to clear the tire from rubbing on the frame when converting a srw to a dually? I was thinking the rear axle will be narrower for a srw truck.
I know a hub spacer for the front is needed to run the dually rim.

Anyone know any of this for sure?

what axle are you going to use they had different width axles a lot of variables need to know what axle you plan to use.

single wheel 14 bolt 3/4 or 1 ton. spring perches are narrower on a 1 ton single wheel axle
dually with a bed used a dana 70 witch is wider
cab and chassis used a narrow 14 bolt

if you use the cab and chassis rear you will need 1 ton spring hangers the springs are closer to the frame on a 1 ton for added clearance for the inner wheel.

I have bolted dual wheels to a 3/4 ton 14 bolt but you should get longer studs to run the lug ring thing

I dont know if i want to convert my truck to dually now, i wanted to only because i found a cheap dually bed. On the disc brake conversion will the conversions they have for the full float work on a semi float??

I do not know if the disc brake brackets fit a semi float or not. I do not waste my time with the semi float axles. they are a good upgrade for a half ton if you can find one of the 6 lug versions.

Please excuse this thread hi-jack.

I will be doing this to a C20 , did you have interference from the spring to inside tire ? Semi to full floater conversion ( 3/4 ton axle ), and changeover to dually.
I also need to convert from the small 3/4 ton brakes to dually large drums or disc brakes - any insight to those brake issues ? Disc the easiest route ?

I'll be going back to the "14 Bolt Bible" for alittle more insight myself , but it's not spelled-out too clear to me yet !

Thanks for anyones help on this , I may start a thread.

if I remember right I had no clearance issue tire to spring. but the lug studs need changed to longer studs so you can run the ring for the lug nut tapper

semi floater to full floater is a direct swap

disc brakes on a full floater are easy but I would not waste the money putting discs on a semi floater. or putting dual wheels on a semi floater they are barley better than a 12 bolt half ton rear in my opinion.

diy4x.com makes nice disc brackets for the full floater for 70 bucks. then you can buy the calipers and rotors local to save shipping. if you want a park brake you will need Cadillac rear calipers and they are expensive

Thanks ! The full float axle would get the duals. What is the era of Caddy caliper to buy ?
19xx to 19xx ? ( I can find that with a search I'm sure , thanks for reminding us of it tho' )

The semi ain't so bad with a 9.5 ring gear and it's other shaft 'n bearing specs,( Dana 60 is only a 9.75 diameter), is it ? Mine has the large brakes on it too.

For what my trucks need to do a full float is the best for the job, but I'd like a semi in my '94 K1500 so I could put down more pwr , the front is a lost cause tho' !

THANKS Kleedus !

You can change the spring hangers and make it a bolt in deal. I done it on my 90 crew cab you can see pics and info in my 90 crew cab short bed build in the under construction forum page 18 or 19 somewhere.
