I'll take your word for it. I would assume it would be C&C type applications, but GM also had 14 bolts designated for C&C

As far as I remember, GM only used the D70HD, and that was only on the full body dually pick ups. From my understanding, they used 14 bolts on the c&c duallies.

So I’m taking it that is what I posted a pic of a 14 bolt? If so I guess I better pull the cover to see if the inner pinion support bearing boss is busted like the last 2 I messed with.(dually rears that is)

From what I recall, It should be a 14B. I would have thought that the tubes would be larger than that though. Somewhere in the 3.5- 3.75 range?

Wouldn’t a Chevy 307 and an Olds 307 be a better comparison. They are equally turds as a 14ff and D70 are equally strong? Lol I’m guessing some may not know the joys of the craptacular Chevy 307 though. Lol

It was just the first thing that came to mind, lol.

The d70HD that GM used on the dually trucks ran a 4" axle tube with 1/2 walls. Can't recall if there were any differences in the shafts themselves, but was thinking there were for some reason. As far as I aware, the 70HD was the only one GM used wasn't it? All tye other flavors of D70 were used by the other manufacturers.

I think you are correct.

All cab&chassis rears were the 14 bolt.

Yup. The wide fender duallies all got the D70hd with the bigger axle tubes. 14bolt rears have 3 3/8 axle tubes.

Any idea why they used such a small tube diameter on the c&c?

I withdraw my question. I just measured the 14b under my truck. It's 3 3/8 too. I guess I just thought they were larger.

It was all of them. The C&C housing was the same as the SRW housing, the only difference is where the flange for the brakes is welded on. The C&C rear has the flanges welded more inboard to accommodate the dually style hubs.

Right on thanks for the clarity.
Yes my 81 crewcab (avatar) has the D70.

For some reason, I think the first gen camaro had the 307 chevy engine as an option too.

Weren't 307s just the leftover blocks and cranks from building 302s?
I don’t think so after further digging no 307was 327 stroke 283 bore. 302 was 327 bore 283 stroke
