Some type of solenoid on the firewall??

There would be a connector near main throttle shaft on the front of the carb. If u don't have that, then you don't have mixture controlled by ecu. You have the dual stage accel pump as I do and if you leave it unconnected it will run just like an older qjet, full shot all the time


Also gray connector on top = dual stage accel pump
Blue = ecu mixture control

That is completely wrong. Normally that side is the tip in vacuum switch for timing. It is totally unrelated to EGR. Here's what should happen.

1. Unhook that vacuum line at the switch on the firewall. It should be running to the carb, and the port should only supply vacuum when the throttle is opened. Not sure where that is on a qjet.
2. Check for any other open lines that would cause a vacuum leak.
3. If you are running a 700r4, there should be a switch that looks almost like the one you are taking about. But it should be at the 10 o clock position above the brake booster. In the first pic, to the left of the egr, there are two wires. Yellow and green. That is the wires for the egr bleed solenoid which is tied into the 700r4 overdrive wiring. Follow the green wire until you come to another connector. Note it should be blue and green wires. Follow that until it comes to a connector that will not be hooked to anything. That is supposed to be hooked into the overdrive vacuum switch.
4. If the green wire leads up to the switch that you have pointed out, then some one had moved it. If that is the case, you need to run a vacuum line from a full vacuum port on the carb. This would also apply if you found another switch laying in the engine compartment from step 3.
5. If you dont have a 700r4, only do step 1 and 2.

OK. So I do have a lock up switch on the firewall by the brake booster separate from the tip in exactly as you all described. It had no vacuum hose to it at all. So its even worse than I thought. There is so much extra emissions vacuum hoses hooked up everywhere im lost. There could be a leak anywhere.

A. There should be a sticker on the radiator support. That is the emissions sticker. It shows how everything should be hooked up. Follow that to put it back to stock. This is the pain in the ass option.

B. If no emissions, then you only need what I say here. A line going from brake booster to carb. A line from pcv valve to carb. A line from carb to vacuum advance on distributor. A line from carb to 700r4 switch. A line to EGR since you have it and a line to the tip in switch since it appears you still have an ESC distributor. Use some vacuum tees that are already there on lines you don't need and use them for lines listed above since qjets don't have that many ports.

Take some closer pics all around the engine, the firewall and also the vapor canister on driver side of radiator.

I like option B. No need for emissions here. I would love to clean everything that is not necessary. Havent messed with it yet in fear of messing something up. The canister has a line to the fuel tank, and I thought it ran to the fuel pump also? how would the tank vent? and would I just plug the line at the fuel pump?

Also, in the pic above, The green and yellow wires that ran to a harnest to the left of the egr. The harnest is connected to 2 vacuum lines. Can those vacuums just be capped at the harnest. Or does the vacuum effect that green and yellow wires. By the way thanks for all the help.

Ok took a better pic with a hand pointing to the harnest with the yellow and green wires on one end and 2 vacuum hoses out the other. From there, one vacuum goes to what I think is the air pump(yes or no?). The other vacuum line goes to a vacuum connecter with 4 ports that is screwed into the intake manifold. The other 3 ports on the connector all go into ports on the Q-jet. Being able to cap or do away with the 4 ports would free up 3 ports on the Q-jet for the egr, tip in, and lock up.

HAHA!! Yes sir very confusing. My truck is an 85, it has a HEI distributor so does that mean none of the motor should be computer controlled? There is some sort of computer/module in the dash above the glove box..

This is good. Check and make sure they are no wires coming out the back of distributor, 5 wires to be exact. That is HEI ESC distributor. If not then we can eliminate the tip in switch, decel valve, EFE valve and diverter valve. That's half of that crap on that sticker.

Where will the wires be coming from on the distributor? Here is a Pic of the distributor cap removed a Couple days ago I replace the ignition coil, and module. I pointed to the 3 wires that come from the frontof distributor to the coil. and not sure where the other 2 wires come from but they also plug into the coil
