Hello ladies and gents!

I had some trouble starting and idling with my truck.

I planned on changing spark plugs and wires as apart of the project schedule and went ahead.

Now!!! She starts perfect and runs like a Dream compared to before.

BUT!! now I’m getting a concerning amount of smoke out of the exhaust.

All the plugs had oil deposits and looked like they haven’t been changed in a long time or he let the oil leak go for longer then anyone should.

First thing that came to mind was if one of the plugs wasn’t working maybe there was build up and now that it has new plugs it’s just burning all that out???

I do have a cracked manifold I am getting replaced next week but.....

i too, have plugs of spark.

rich fuel mixture, retarded timing, probably weaker spark, sat a long time with sludgy oil, so im expecting a few changes till its cleaner. and put new plugs in, fixed timing a bit.

Is it the same or worse on a stop and restart or first start off the day.Valve seals the oil runs down the stem and puddles up so it's worse on start-up. Rings oil run the skirts and down the cylinder walls not puddling up.So no change on amount of smoke on startup.

my 2001 aurora never cared. valve seals were a dealer only option, it seemed.

no matter how car was driven, a certai time or 400 miles, 1 quart of motor oil.

Can't seem to find the pics I had of actual fouled plugs. Badger me some and I might remember to take a pic when I'm out there scraping with a small screwdriver and a wire brush. ;)

Also check the drain ports in back of cylinder heads ... if there is build up could be over flooding the heads and filling up past the valve seals ... causeing extra pressure and there is leak by ... seen it

uh.. i wasnt looking for pity... i was showing an example of plugs from a truck that burned a tiny bit of oil at one point and mostly was just rich fuel mixture... like, its main issue and pretty much only one i can discern from internal standpoint...

What does the oil look like around 800 to 1,000 miles on it? Dark? Might be years of crud built up, what Josh and BigChip have said I would also check.

If stuff might be plugged up internally in the engine you cannot see, or the oil is just dark and not clean after a short amount of miles, a good oil for cleaning is shell rotella 15-40.

Don't be afraid to also use a little bit of seafoam in the oil too to help get it all cleaned up. At the same time run a good carb/fuel injector cleaner in the tank too. I have done this with engines and it does help to get them cleaned up internally, and requires a bit more frequent oil change to get the crap out. However, after a bit it will be worth it.
