I am Redoing my nasty old fuel lines, and I followed one of the lines which Im assuming is the vent line to the Smog Canister, so My question is can I throw the canister in the garbage along with the smog pump, and just put a breather of something along those lines on the vent fuel line

same thing I've done to numerous vehicles.

The tree huggers and such aint gonna like it and if you got emissions tests you probably need both for sure.

BTW, this is usually referred to as the Evap Canister. I say hollow it out, run a copper coil thru it, and make it hold ice for a Cool Can when racing. Some emmisions tests are just a visual. If it's there and hooked up, it passes, they don't even care what it's hooked to just so long as it's there and in use. Now you won't get by with that in CA. They do care how it's hooked up.

I'll leave mine hooked up. It's really big deal and does serve good purpose. If it ever broke, clogged or I started getting charcoal sucked up into my intake, then yeah, I'd toss it. Otherwise, I'm just leaving well enough alone. I'm not a tree hugger at all, and trust me, I love motorsports, but it's one of those things if everyone did a little, it a makes a huge difference. Look at it like this, if everyone in USA gave you a nickel, how much money would you have??? A pretty healthy chunk of change.

HotRod, there are many more secretive ways of cooling air/fuel charge that don't use a evap cannister. Man that would be a nightmare to plumb!!

Oh I know there is. I'm just saying, if it has to be hooked up, then hook it up. But it hook it up the race way, not the right way. You're right though it would be a bitch, but I know it can be done. I know of a guy who did it, and used a very small piece of dry ice. Those lines were very cold. And the small chunk of dry ice actually lasted quite some time. Gotta be careful though. Let it sit to long without being warmed or flow, it wil gel or start freezing the gas. He was a street racer and noone even paid attention to it and caught on. All they were doing was looking for NOS lines which he didn't have. He later did use a cheater NOS system in a small bottle and was plumbed under the intake. The guy was sharp with auto plumbing. Modified an intake with a windage tray underneath it and small metal tubing directly to each runner where it met the head port. Only 2 solenoids and they were hidden too. I'll never forget that sneaky bastard. I never raced him and never would. He was a friend of a friend and why I knew what I did.

We had some heads with the exhaust crossover blocked off so I drilled and tap the intake for 5/8" NPT and ran cold water under the intake plenium. Worked great for a year until they changed the rules damnit!
