Skinny mudders

I was looking at tires that might fit the stock 16x6.5 rims I have. I believe those numbers are right, please correct me if not. Anywho, I was thinking of getting a set of 33x9.5x16 buckshot mudders and was wondering if anybody else has run a tire of that size on the stock rims with any luck, or problems.

It used to be very common to see trucks with stock skinny rims and narrow, bias ply mudders on them. Not so much anymore. These days, everyone cares about the road manners of their farm truck more than they used to.

Road manners in a solid axle 4x4? LoL, not sure they ever don't suck, regardless of the tires.

Seriously tho, I get what you're saying. This truck will only see a few thousand miles a year, 5k at the most, and it's road manners aren't all that important to me.

Can't say as to the fitment of the wheel/tire combo never having run anything similar. It's just a certain look you're after I'm guessing, I think it's a cool look.

Yeah, I'm leaning toward a mostly stock look, considering even keeping all the OEM stuff under the hood too, but with a fuel injection setup under that breather. I just want a slightly larger and more aggressive looking tire on a stock rim.

I would think those tires would fit fine. The Interco website should tell you the recommended wheel width for each tire size.

Be prepared for short tread life. Small, narrow bias ply tires will wear fast on a heavy truck. I’d realistically expect 15k miles or less.

If you're not hell-bent on keeping your stock 16" wheels, I run LT255/80R17 Nittos on Hummer H2 wheels on my '86 CUCV. They're a 33" diameter. I absolutely love the skinny tire look...have for decades. It's an all-terrain, but has side lugs that give it a more aggressive look. 17" wheels also open up a lot more options/sizes than 16", as well.

I ran 34" x 9.5" swampers on an old military Jeep, and definitely noticed rapid tire wear with those FWIW.

Tire wear varies greatly between tire makes and models. But I'd agree that 15k is a safe estimate, although I also wouldn't be surprised if they lasted much longer.

Look into military surplus Michelin XZL in 9.00 - 16, they measure a bit taller about 36" but are skinny enough for your rim.

I love the tall skinny aggressive tire on old trucks. Go for it!!

238/85-16 Mud Terrains 0n stock rims for years.
Never any problems.
