I think you missed my point. And I like SUV's. My gripe is towards the manufacturers who are force feeding everyone 'crossover utility vehicles' and all the people that buy them because they are too stupid to think for themselves. They are great for a lot of people, sure. But there's a lot of people that would be better suited with an actual sedan or an actual station wagon, but they buy the 'crossover' because that's what their neighbors buy and they want to be just like them.

Also, the interior space of a modern SUV is nothing compared to an older one.

So in short, I'm only bad mouthing the manufacturers and a few of the sheep that are apparently in their focus groups.

You really think that's how it went down. The auto mfgs woke up one morning about 30 years ago and said to themselves, "Self, I know everyone likes station wagons and big boaty sedans, so in the interest of selling LESS vehicles, we're going to discontinue them and start selling mini vans, little SUVs and (eventually) crossovers!"

C'mon man, nobody wants a station wagon. If they did, a comparable old station wagon wouldn't only be 10% the price of a coupe. Same with sedans...
Industrious manufactures came up with good ideas and the public accepted them. Then those ideas, while popular, morphed into other ideas. Like, hey mini vans are popular and so are mid size SUVs. How about making something that looks better than a minivan (the station wagon of the 80s-2000s), but isn't as spendy as a full on 4wd mid size suv. Hence the crossover was born.

Oh and EPA fuel mileage thing too.

Why aren't there any more square Chevy Caprices and Ford Crown Vics? Because, 21st century. I'm sure someone cried in in 1958 when you couldn't buy a new 1957 Chevy anymore. But it wasn't 1957 anymore.
And fwiw there are plenty of new sedans around still. I've probably rented 10 totally different models in the last year. Why rent a sedan? (They're cheaper and they are cheaper because they are not as popular) A midsize crossover has more cargo space and the same seating as the same size car. Can fit me and 3 teenagers and 3 hockey bags easy in about any X over. Try fitting the 3rd bag into the trunk of a car.

Interior space of a modern SUV nothing like old ones? Full size suvs, Tahoes, Expeditions, Escalades etc were just as big as an old Burb and all are bigger than Broncos and Blazers (70s-80s).

Everyone has their preferences. And yours is just as valid as anyone else's. But to think that the mfgs discontinued something very popular without a good financial reason or a mandate is silly.

These are the two most used vehicles in the fleet. 2015 Passat TDI and 2012 Ram 2500. Yes, I like the metallic gray.

All I'm saying is, of course CUVs are going to sell like hot cakes if that's all there is to choose from. And it's not my opinion that a lot of people buy something just because everyone else they know has one... that's just a fact of human nature.

And I would buy a station wagon. A good honest station wagon, not some halfass thing that's tall and short. But there aren't any. The Regal TourX came really damn close, but they were still a little short and kind of pricey for what they were.

Flat tire repair day.

Broke down on the side of the freeway in the middle of Portland.
Some thing stopped the fuel coming from the tank, no gas from the accel pump.
I carry a 18" long piece of fuel hose in my simple tool box and hooked it to the engine hard line that comes from the tank and blew into it until I made bubbles.
Hooked it all back up and off we went.

I made him a deal in the 8th grade that if he graduates high school with zero D's or F's on any report card that I would give the car to him.

He is now a senior in high school and has lived up to his end of the deal.

Was looking for the 04-07 body style but crew cab pickups are insanely priced right now. This one was within my price range with a bunch of work done recently and only 127,000 miles so I jumped on it. Put around 4000 miles on it since I got it in December and it’s been good

You must be very proud of him! And from your posts he’s turning into a good mechanic as well!

Nothing better than seeing your kids succeed. Sadly we’re on the downhill slide now with the boys. One is a senior and the other is a freshman. Both have done us proud so far.
It’s good to see kids work for things like your boy does.
We try to do the same. Make them work their asses off but reward them for a job well done.

that is the first look for GMT 800 right? Like someone could take the bed and put it on an 07 if they wanted and maybe body lines wouldnt match but it would work?

I only ask, because im a strong proponent of amber rear turn signals, and these beds go for cheap around me and I will need one to replace one of my junk trailers, and I like to have a full working light set on trailers, this would be an easy way to incorporate it if it comes with tails

and dont have to mess making brakcets
