I’m not sure about the Chevys
But on fords the levers on the Column under the hood have a tiny hole in the center
You loosen the adjustment on the trans levers and insert a drill bit into the holes on the Column levers
To align both levers exactly with each other
Then tighten the adjustment on the trans levers
Also replace all the bushings in all the levers with high quality new ones
There’s also some bushings inside the Column that can wear out and you gotta pull the Column to replace those
