Recognize this?

I found this inside the driver’s door when I was replacing the window seals on my 1981 C10 Silverado (crank windows, manual locks). There is no rust at all in the door itself and I can see that the doors have older aftermarket interior panels on them so I am not the first person in there. I can’t see anything like it on the other door so I’m guessing this is a random piece of junk somebody left in there or was maybe part of the OEM panel.

Does this look familiar to anybody? It’s going to bug me until I figure it out. Thanks.

I have the same part from my ‘80 K25, but in better condition. I don’t remember where it came from or what it does. It’s been in my spare / unknown parts pile for a long time. Didn’t want to throw it away in case I need it someday. Would be great if someone could shine some light on this.

Thanks. I was just figuring that out. So I guess that this truck had sport mirrors on it at one point and then a later owner swapped in the dumbo mirrors. When I replace the panels I’ll make sure the dumbo brackets are there. Thanks for the info: you added the last piece of the puzzle.

I didn’t see sport mirrors listed as an option on this truck - were they a standard part of the Silverado package or something like that?

So we are in the same boat. Turns out it was a bracket for the sport mirrors, but we both have dumbo mirrors on our trucks now. So mystery solved and no action needed.

The 1981 Truck brochure does not seem to show mirrors directly related to trim level.

With that said I would think most Silverado's probably had the dumbo mirrors in the 80's and most trucks in general.

The 85 Silverado I parted out had them:

The little "sport" mirrors were simply the standard mirrors.

Note ...Just a heads up ... the bracket used for the Larger Mirrors, the left and Right side are different and should not be crossed with one another ... It will make the Vent window nearly impossible to install properly if you use the support on the incorrect side. This bracket connects the outer shell to the inner shell.

Good reminder. If I need brackets I’ll have to be extra careful since I at least need to rebuild the vent windows.
