Almost anything chrome can be brought back to near original shine unless it is extremely pitted with just a few hours of actual effort.
If yours is hazy, cloudy, it doesn't need to be rechromed or replaced. It needs to be cleaned and polished properly

Looks good.
If I replace my k5's bumpers I'll go with a quality repop.
Are your bumper guards new or original?

They’re original, new chrome on original and new pads

There was a place I used to send stuff in the NW - incredible job and very reasonable. Owner had a past habit of putting white powder in his nose.....apparently had a relapse and the work was awful (and his prices jacked 2-3x) almost overnight. Now, the shipping would kill to send it that far.

There's a place about 2 hrs from here I'm going to ask - I have 2 bumpers - one is awesome chrome but bent in slightly on one corner. If it was a cheap aftermarket would be easy to fix with a come along and tree. The other bumper I have is perfect - not even a ding - but faded/hazed. The bumper guards I have aren't bad either - one stud is broken but going to have that fixed. Could probably peddle it to fix my good one.

My fear with the aftermarket was as much chrome quality as it was steel thickness. I see 2-3 yr old Rams around here with peeling chrome.

The faded one -

how about.. uh... rust?

Bad photo, but there are a few spots that poke through on the other side not so easy to see, but im guessing maybe it just had a spot where moisture got steel under, or maybe it sat in the ground face down so the non-pretty side was opened. or maybe a mounting spot. etc. I guess i didnt realize OEM bumper were so much desired because of the thickness

Yeah, the spots that are rusted don't have chrome on them to polish. Probably weld and grind and polish as best as you can. Rust encapsulator on the inside after.

There is a chrome paint I saw on you tube I plan on trying eventually. Its not your normal cheap rattle can deal. It's a 2 stage system. If the craps any good it would a goid cheap fix for a DD bumper even a rusted one.Phosphoric acid wash,to kill the rust epoxy prime, base coat, top coat.. Wouldn't use it on something I was wanting to show but a daily driver I think it would be good.I'm going to try it.

Thats looks REALLY good. Do they coat the backsides with anything? Last few bumpers I had replated had a gray or black epoxy on the backs. Just curious.

My bumper guards are in nice shape - no dents...but slightly hazed. That and one of the studs broke off. Think I can get that fixed though.

So you had the guards replated? Send them away or someplace local? I'm only about an hour south of you.

Looks like they did a great job. I think Brother's has repops for <$300. but no idea what those are like either.

I had a local guy Do the Chrome.. not cheap, but he made them better than factory. I did paint the back of the bumper black.
