Anyone bought one of the repop chrome front bumpers from LMC or the like? Was wondering what the quality was like.

I have a couple really nice front bumpers - no dings or dents but the chrome is very tired and hazed. Also have the bumper guards to go with it. To get them re-chromed is absurd. New is cheaper than re-plating. My only fear is every aftermarket bumper I've seen was thin as cat hair. I could almost peddle my bumper and guards and get a new one if its any good. If the new ones are junk, I'm going to just figure a way to eventually get one of these replated....maybe sell a kidney on Craigslist or something.

My rear bumper is originally painted so going to keep that for now.....but even that aftermarket quality is another question.

Thanks.

Try GMC Paul's. That's where I got my front bumper for my Square body, and the rear bumper for my '69. Good quality, and nice chrome...although not as thick as the stock bumper. I'm happy with how it turned out, and then I buffed my stock bumper guards and added new plastic to the fronts and all new bumper bolts.

I was just looking at bumpers on AMD's site and they say it weighs 35 pounds...seems light to me but I'll have to weigh one this weekend. I've heard they are pretty nice, but I can't confirm.

I purchased from NPD. About half the thickness/weight of the original. Edges are quite sharp and rough in a few places. Otherwise they worked fine in terms of fit.

I’ve bought a front bumper from LMC, The premium bumper has nice chrome and good fit, but it is a little lighter than the original. They come from TriPlus automotive..Taiwan

I feel your pain on re-chroming. Mine would only need minimal work if any. I got a starting quote starting at $750!! I guess I'll be buying one of those "premium" bumpers.

There was a place I used to send stuff in the NW - incredible job and very reasonable. Owner had a past habit of putting white powder in his nose.....apparently had a relapse and the work was awful (and his prices jacked 2-3x) almost overnight. Now, the shipping would kill to send it that far.

There's a place about 2 hrs from here I'm going to ask - I have 2 bumpers - one is awesome chrome but bent in slightly on one corner. If it was a cheap aftermarket would be easy to fix with a come along and tree. The other bumper I have is perfect - not even a ding - but faded/hazed. The bumper guards I have aren't bad either - one stud is broken but going to have that fixed. Could probably peddle it to fix my good one.

My fear with the aftermarket was as much chrome quality as it was steel thickness. I see 2-3 yr old Rams around here with peeling chrome.

The faded one -

I'd like to know this.
I'm also thinking about replacing my stock k5 bumpers with AMD ones.
I've used their patch panels before.

I also have the bumper guards to consider.

The price of rechroming has me happy that my truck will be good with driver quality bumpers.
The one one the front of the truck looks good still and we pulled a fresh one from the junkyard for the rear.

Just have to cut the steel diamond plate monster off the truck before we can put the junkyard bumper on.

I just installed my new front bumper today, got it through Keystone

LKQ (whom I loathe) used to do pretty reasonable chrome plating through Keystone. Think they were owned by the same company or one another, etc. Was one of those deals where you took it to an LKQ and they took it from there - took awhile but was cheap.

This a repop or replate? Looks GOOD. Those bumper guards new too?

Keep in mind, bumpers get dented and bent. Other drivers in parking lots are idiots. On my Tundra, I have replaced my rear bumper 3 times in 6 years. People back up without looking or pull forward and don't pay attention and hit you and then just drive off. I'd hate to take an original bumper and pay almost a grand to have it chromed, only to have some idiot back in to it. I'd much rather have a quality repop that I can just order with insurance proceeds, and quickly put it back on.

Another angle. Happy with this GMC Paul's bumper

It's a new bumper, the bumper guards are from my old '83 Chev van.

I've stared at that pic for 20 minutes and still dont see a bumper. On the other hand, I see you've solved the windshield washer issue. :hat:
