I did it and very happy with the swap truck runs a lot better, I had to use a 1/2 spacer under carb to give clearance for throttle linkage, I used the stock intake.

From what I am hearing over on one of my threads a quadrajet is a better carb for driving. It is a smoother carb and actually can perform better if tuned right. I am saving myself the trouble and just fixing my quadrajet instead of swapping an edelbrock because it is much more plug and play. Edelbrock parts however are much more common in local autoparts stores so they are a little more user friendly and convenient as well. My philosophy is that the factory put a q-jet on it for a reason, so I'm sticking with that. It is up to you though.

Which carb number did you use? Thought about putting on Edelbrock 3 years ago. Instead, had Quadrajet rebuilt. Now thinking of putting on a 1406 again to see how it works on truck. 5 years ago had a 72 350/th350, PO had a Holley 850 cfm double pumper (over carbed). Changed to a 1406 and it ran pretty good so thinking about it again.

They are always improving these carburetors the ethanol is the real culprit if you don’t drive the vehicle everyday they will clog up that’s my issue and if you have the rogerchester rebuilt by someone that knows how to make it ethanol proof you will spend as much on the rebuild than you can buy a new carb.

I ran a Holley 4175 spread bore (Yes, spread bore) vac secondary carb on my '68 El Camino back in the early 90's. I only had to change the secondary spring to fit the performance of my motor. It's double the price of the Edelbrock though.

The last time I swapped a square to an Edelbrock, which has been at least 10 years now, I had an issue with the adapter I used.

The carb butterflies were hitting the intake or the adapter, I don't recall which. I could only get like 1/2 throttle though.

I wound up getting a matching Edelbrock intake at scratch and dent for like 75 bucks and that solved it lol.

Went from Eddy 1405 to Q-jet, professionally built. Wouldn't run right no matter what I tried.

Put Q jet in "trash". Installed Eddy 1406. One pump to set choke. Turn key and add gas. Starts every time.

By the way. Edlebrock says to use a four hole adapter with 4 hole gaskets. Don't pay Edlebrock their high price. I found exact one at NAPA for less than half the price.

I swaped from quadrajet to edelbrock and then back. In my experience good (self) rebuild q-jet is the better carb. Excellent throttle response, great wot and better mileage than the edelbrock. Edelbrocks are easier to tune and parts are easier to find.

This has been discussed a billion times,but here we go a billion and 1 the qjet works great and dud for decades. When you go edelbrock you start having fuel pressure issues and you lose your factory hardliners for fuel.Two of mine have been edelbrock swapped by previous owners and I've been too lazy or too busy to swap back or at least make a hard line for fuel. Well long story short I just had an underwood fire about an hour ago a rubber fuel lin got a pin hole and was passing like a squirt gun right on the distributor. So now I have more work to do.Good luck but if you go edelbrock please make a new hardline.
