Pusher fan(s)

Wondering if anyone has added radiator cooling pusher fan(s) using fan clutch or single electric radiator fan. For instance adding one or 2 smaller fans in front of AC condenser for added cooling.

Pullers are more efficient. As an auxiliary set up a pusher will suffice, but for main means of cooling go with a puller.

It seem to help a bit for ac at idle on a suburban. On a regular cab did not need one.

I know for sure 81-91 Square body trucks and Suburbans with 454's and 4.10 gears came with an auxiliary electric fan mounted on the passenger side IFO the radiator. I've had 3 trucks with this set up. My K30 has 3.73's and did not come with the fan, but I will be installing one. I found that trucks/Suburbans up to 99 had the fan also. Of course the OEM temp sensor has been discontinued, but I found one on e-Bay for a 95 that I'm going to try. The original sensor turned the fan on based on temperature. I don't recall if there was an A/C override, but it would be easy to set up that way. The diagram is for a 92-95. The sensor is AC Delco 15-2624, GM 10096148.

As a side note, the 2016 Ram 2500 6.4 Hemi I recently sold came from the factory with an electric puller fan ifo the mechanical clutch fan.

My '86 Burb had 3.73 gearing and had the fan too. I wonder why your K30 doesn't have one.

I think I figured it out since your's has 3.73's. My K30 doesn't have the Z82 tow package. One of the PO's had an aftermarket receiver hitch on it and it doesn't have the pre-wire for the 7 pin trailer plug. I've had 5 GM trucks between '85 and '95. All had 454's, 4.10 gears and a tow package. I always assumed it was related to the gears and engine.

Yep, it had the towing equipment with the 7-pin wiring.

I agree it was most definitely a big block thing. My other '86 was a 4x4 with the 350. 4:10 gears and tow equipment too, but no pusher fan. I think if it would have been available on a small block, the original owner would have got it. It even had dual batteries.

Just a thought. Based on the positioning of the fan, I have to wonder if GM was trying to cool the transmission, more so than the engine? The fan was placed right in front of the internal tranny cooler. Maybe it was for towing etc?

My only issue is I can only add 1 or 2 9" fans in front of condenser due to the limited space because of the hood latch bracket. Bracket is at an angle inward from top to bottom and this is primarily due to that is where the grill mounts. I measured 10.5" on each side of the bracket and not much room for one behind bracket. I believe a 10" would be too large.

If I mounted 1- 9" fan to passenger side should it be placed at lower corner of the condenser or centered?

This is the factory location. There were 4 pre-drilled holes from the factory on the radiator support. The fan is centered on the bottom of that opening. Due to the fact my truck is a big block, the radiator tanks are positioned outside of the openings. If you want a better picture, I can run down to the shop and snap some. I found this on my local CL. This is the same fan as mine.
