My block and water pump do have the extra hole as you shown in the pic. Thanks for post so that for other to see. I have a 1999 Vortec in my 80 Z28 and it also had the bypass hole for water pump.Bypass is drilled in block,but some use more bypass,I don't think vortec blocks are drilled for bypass,so some use heater core as bypass. If your block doesn't have this hole,or it's plugged you have to provide bypass some how. I thought maybe yours was plugged or maybe vortec block.

I went to do some cleaning and fit up of parts and trying to get this damn thing ready. Either its to hot or its raining or I have other (life) things to do. I started a thread about the timing cover non tapped bolt holes because Im using the HOLLEY vortec cover. For my own reasons of course...
