I think I answered my own question here with this, came from Super Chevy:

400HP 383 Engine Specs
Bore x Stroke 4.03x3.75
Compression 10.1:1
Cam: ProComp Hyd Roller
Lift 0.552/0.552
Duration 231/236
Lobe Sep: 110
Heads: Pro Comp 190cc aluminum (as cast)
In/Ex Port Vol: 190cc/72cc
In/Ex Flow: 245/190 CFM @ 0.600
Valve Sizes: 2.02/1.6
Chamber: 68cc
Intake Manifold: Pro Comp Dual-Plane Qualifier Plus
Carburetor: Holley 750HP
Header: Hooker 1 3/4
Oiling System: Stock

I'm sure I won't be doing this exact part recipe, but I think it's something to go by as far as numbers go.

I guess I should state what I'm thinking I'm wanting, right now it isn't a daily driver but it gets drivin a lot, but every so often I want to go to a test and tune night at our local 1/8 mile track, probably never see a 1/4 mile track since the closest is about an hour and a half away. while 400hp is my max goal, I'm also looking at best torque range, is around 400 torque as easy as 400 hp?

Well take em to gateway sometime:)

I've been to gateway before for midnight madness, I'd make the trip but not every weekend, Bentons track is cheaper and only 30 mins away! Lol

With a small block stroker, a mild-medium one, I would expect you to eclipse your torque goal pretty easily.

I have a similar build in mind, a street/strip truck. I feel confident that with my 400, some Vortecs, a cam, 3.73 gear's, a set of Caltrac's, and some DR's, I can get a low 13-high 12 out of it.

About the same, http://www.strokerengine.com/VortecHeads.html

I'm pretty certain they are actually discontinued. The lure of Vortec's is you get a whole, assembled, pair of head's, brand new, for under 500 bucks.

IMO, once you get up to 7-8 bucks, you may as well be looking at name brand alloy head's. I would avoid Promaxx and the like.
