Will a standard drill bit and drill be able to handle the job? I can weld a new mount tab in house for no cost but I dont wanna buy a new bit

Yes, it's just mild steel. A halfway decent bit will get the job done, but drill a small pilot hole first. Like 1/8 inch or a little bigger.

Just like he said, start small, maybe a 1/8 size. After that you can use a uni-bit if you have one or just work up a size or two at a time. Once it's done you'll be kind of wondering why you were even worried about it.

Yep, you can either drill it, or find you an 81 up frame that's already got the holes punched for a 700r4 and then just swap your bed, cab and front clip over. No biggie, either way will work. Take your pick.

Just get the body mount bushings with the frame as well as the front bumper to the donor frame, then the rest is just a simple swap. No holes to drill at all.

Got the new unit today! For 550 I got a rebuilt 700r4, a converter, a trans mount, a universal tv cable, and a 1 year warrantee on the whole thing. I think I got a pretty good deal, feel free to chime in though.

One hickup is that he could only grab an electric Speedo hookup for now. My 78 is cable driven. Should I wait until he can grab me a cable and gears to put in it? Or is there an easy way to convert my speedo to electric. I was thinking maybe use a later model truck but im having trouble identifying what years to look for. If its simple enough I'd rather go electric because my cable likes to wonder right now, but if its going to be a hassle I can wait and live with a mechanical speedo

If he can't get the reluctor wheel off the output shaft to convert to manual speedo, then he can just use an output shaft that is for manual speedo.

Nothing is wrong with it if it's for your application. It's just a terminology joke.

I'll go with Detent Cable, TV Cable, all the same. Nothing is wrong with your cable except that i's named properly. Getting a bit more technical, for a 700r4 it makes it a TV or Throttle Valve cable but because it fits different applications, it can be a Detent or TV Cable.

The guy that rebuilt the trans said he took out all the lockup wiring for simplicity. Since this is a daily that won't see much more than red light races, should I get a kit and reinstall it for mpg?
