Brother's trucks has a great video on rebuilding the vent windows. My 78 windows weren't too bad. Use a LOT of silicone spray lube on them. Hardest part I found was getting the rubber seal to slide past the bend in the window. Also, don't go cheap and try using pop rivets like I did, use the vent window repair kit. It will save you a lot of swearing!

Ken, we are new to the forum but just finished our vents, and installed them today.

First, Jeff Gau at Precision is spectacular! He is the guy in all the videos at Precision. We decided to do it ourself but found the videos on the net were lacking after we got started. The brothers video is good just not great. Some others that are good as well.

Here is what we learned. You CAN do it yourself. You just need lots of patients. That said, the rebuild program is awesome. They powder coat the frames and everything is new on your frames. There were several times during rebuild I almost boxed them up and sent them to Jeff and Greg, but he talked me off the cliff!

I will try and copy and paste the video link we followed. But know, we took one apart completely and rebuilt it just like the Brothers video, and the other we did not disassemble it and did it the Precision video way. They both went back in the truck today with little trouble.

I was grateful for the challenge and the folks at precision were there to answer all the questions we had, where do you find a company like that?

Ken,

The program is worth the money which was your original question. I have seen the finished product.. very nice and all new. We used old glass and frame, new hardware. I was teaching my son (his build job, he is 15 and bought it with his own money) about not quitting just because things get tough.

thanks randy that is great info.
I may try to remove my vents today and start the paperwork to ship them to Precision. I am not a patient person when it comes to that. would prefer to farm out that headache. I did not see what the cost was while looking at Precision website.
Placed an order for door seals and new windshield rubber from them (windshield on backorder). I had read lots of good review from people on here about the fitment of their stuff

Jeff and Greg are fans
Tasks and you will not be disappointed, and the stress level is much lower !! I found my other “only precision” seals on Jegs and submitted racing as Precision did not have them. I have another contact in south Texas that may have what you need if you have things backordered. Post pic of the before frames, would love to see the condition and compare to ours.

Best to you

I used all Precision seals throughout my 78 cab. They all fit very well and I was happy with their product. As Randy said, these seals take a lot of patients on the vent wings. I would like to know how the Precision rebuild turns out.

Ken, You will love them. About $225 per vent plus shipping with everything new as I recall. Jeff told me (from Precision) that if they show backordered, places like Jegg’s and Summit Racing usually have their seals. LMC sometimes has them but you have to ask for them by name or otherwise you get China junk. I got front window seal from Jegg’s, Rear from Summit and the full door glass seals from Precision.

Can’t wait to see them! #iamjealous

I had my vent windows rebuilt by Precision and they did a great job. You can do it yourself but it is tedious. They got my windows back to me quicker than expected and the look and work like new.

We've had 2 sets of 73-87 done an 3 sets of 67-72 at precision. Very happy with the results an as long as you check ahead an plan accordingly for the lead time it's a smooth process. I have a set to send for my personal truck too eventually.

Also, don't go cheap and try using pop rivets like I did, use the vent window repair kit. It will save you a lot of swearing!
I've refinished my vent windows and new seals. Took the window frame halves apart (didn't need to, should have followed my gut rather than the videos I was watching...lol)
So I was contemplating short steel pop rivets vs machine screws and nuts (and loctite) vs getting a repair kit with the right smash rivets. What was the pop rivet issue?
I've used lots of smasher rivets, huck rivets whatever you call them, but cant see why the other 2 methods wouldn't hold up permanently.
What is your opinion? I'd like something minimally invasive since I don't want to scratch up the newly painted frames.

Edit, it was that damn Brothers video that @Randy De Oreo mentioned that had me completely take them apart when it wasn't necessary....lol.
