Pilot bearing on engine w/pics

installing a new pilot bearing the pilot bearing looks the same on both sides except for on the top it has a little groove that goes around it. Does that little groove mean anything? Does it go towards the engine away from the engine? Thanks for your help. As always.

If both sides are the same, it doesn't matter. Make sure you only apply pressure to the OUTER race when installing it so you don't ruin the internal bearings. I'm using a similar looking one by Moroso and have been very happy with it.
