David Visard has a great book on the BBC, and I have been following his work (and others), and used it on small blocks, and it works. Want more power out of my pp heads, so may do some porting. Biggest hurdle is the compression, about 8:1, would like to get it to about 9.5:1. But with the economy, and the fact that I am building a LQ4, don't want to spend the money.....yet. My plan, get the LQ4 done with the matching 4l80e, may install in the C20, and take it to Bonneville Week of Speed in Sept. Goal is 130 mph class.

Here some information you can use. Those 360s are peanut port heads with stellite seats. Any factory carburated stock 454 engine made 320 HP with headers on the dyno. Properly done 9.3 comp, 228 @ .050 cammed 454s can perform like this:

Not sure what can be done with the TBI 454.
Checking back through threads, what are the Stellite seats so I know. I couldn't find anything on the net.
I am also fixing to start a build page. We have had the engine out and ready to take to a machine shop I believe I am comfortable with.

What is a stellite seat?


Stellite is a patented steel/stainless/nickel high temperature alloy often used for automotive valve seats. Stellite as valve seats is indestructible unless damaged by a solid object (like a bolt), extremely hard, impact resistant, heat resistant, and will hold the grind angle forever.

Mark, anything I should make sure machine shop knows in regards to the seats?

I'd have have a problem beleiving those are 326K mile heads. I mean, sure they could, but they've been removed and put in a machine at least once. Just way to clean. Not even discolored at all. Maybe someone used some good product for a crankcase clean maybe? But yeah, those are exceptionally clean for 326K + mile heads.

Thanks for the input! All but one rocker a touch loose on passenger side. Just one on drivers.
I did look at the umbrella seals and 2-3 cracked, one has chunk gone...
It is obvious the valve cover gaskets were replaced, but that wouldn't tell me if heads off. Plus passenger side had front and rear exhaust manifold bolts broken that had been there awhile, so rabbit hole is what my mind does.
I'll put a couple more pics on build page.
I have to have them cc'd and hope I can trust machine shop.

What direction would you suggest to get the CR in this build (I started a build page).
The owner of machine shop I talked to does mostly 383's? He suggested the domed pistons which was the direction I was headed. He didn't seem thrilled about the PP, lol.
