Also apprently a SD7H15 is a sanden that is commonly used in place of the H6 and people talk about it being much much better at idle for AC performance and not being prone to leaks like the H6 family.

Is it possible to have functioning ac in a c10 with the 5.7 vortec engine?
Absolutely, and actually shouldn't be expensive or hard at all. It's all in how you dress and install the engine. Are you going injected?carbureated?serp belt? V belt? I would assume for sure long water pump, but you never know what some people are doing.

Is there such a thing as a long water pump on a Vortec? When I spoke to Vintage Air, guy looked up my order - said to send the compressor and brackets back.....then made a comment 'you probably got a bracket for a long water pump'. ?! I know they asked me at the time and my 85 had a long pump on it. Are the Vortecs different or just one style?
Short water pump long water pump, that's a question for small block cars late 60s trucks early 70s and corvettes but don't remember the details on the Vettes. From memory last short water pump cars from the factory were 1967,trucks 1972. But as I said in a previous post you never know what some people have done. I'd swap to a short pump and brackets on some engine swaps and have run long pumps and brackets in earlier cars. Depends on what I'm doing with them.
