Is it possible to take the output shaft and tail shaft housing from a driver side drop NP242c and put them on a NP208? I can't find any passenger side drops at the nearby yards and I need to make my transfer case electric speedo

Well I was gonna swap tail shafts housings from my 208 and 241 to get back to my mechanical 208 speedo. Never really looked at it. But all the 4x4 mags say you can. Anyway just googled some pics and it does not look like it will work.

looks like a 241 and 242 are interchangeable but not the 208. However im sure you can change the sensor and reluctor ring over to your 208 housing. maybe that's what the mags were talking about ?

That being said im not sure if the reluctor ring from a 242 will fit on a 208. I have been told the 241 and 208 reluctor ring are interchangeable. I guess I will find out

best thing is to pull some out of the junkyard and see if it works.

And keep us posted

I couldn't get the tail housing off one just now. Heat stroke settling in Haha need to go home for ice cold beer. I'll have to try and tackle another one at another time. But they do not look interchangable at all.

I could only get a quarter of an inch of the housing off and it stopped. I'm obviously missing something

the first part of the housing should come right off then you will see the rear out put bearing and there is a snap ring in front of the bearing that needs to be removed first

yep it sure will. the 242 ring is a splined sleeve right ? your 208 has the same splined sleeve setup so supposedly you just have to swap sleeves and install the sensor into your 208 housing

The reluctor ring fits over the output shaft and is splined to the shaft. No ?
