I dont plan to use split rims ever, but its not something anyone in their right mind or at least practical application use, is it?

Actual split rims, or just the type that employ a locking ring? The locking rings aren't dangerous, they just can't be installed by idiots. Actual split rims though, there was a design variation that was dangerous even if properly assembled.

Here's another good use for them, winter heat !!!
These weren't split rims, but you understand the theory.
This keeps my 1,000 square foot cabin VERY comfy in the winter.

Never had to personally deal with them but my grandfathers F350-550 farm truck had them and no one would even air up the tires as everyone was scared of them. Weren't they the reason tire shops started putting in cages?

Thanks !!
I had just moved onto my barren off grid property and needed a source of heat quickly as it was winter time.
I used what I had on hand, only cost me some welding gas and rod, and some time.

I remember in 1979 when I was driving semis coast to coast, I was at a truck stop garage that had a rather large hole in the roof of the metal building... they informed me it was caused by the lock ring from a wheel that flew off when it came unseated from the rim during the airing up process.
Luckily, nobody was hurt or killed from the incident.

I got some LMTV combat wheels off a m800 series 6x6 5 ton. 10x11.25 pattern for my 5 ton axles under the k5.
. Those are cool, they use the primary shell, the "face plate", and a giant o ring.

When you're mounting a 53 inch tall, 330 pound, 18 ply tire... It makes life 10x 10x 10x easier.

You slip the shell in the opening, grease the o ring groove, slap the o ring in, put more grease down, then stand on the face plate and bolt it down

20 bolts to fasten them together.

Fun as **** to blow it up on the rim with starting fluid too.. Just makes a deep, low gut churning thud when it blows up on the bead.

It's Enough to pucker your butt as it goes up in flames and thuds because it'll either go really wrong and destroy you, or it'll inflate....

Also have the type @bucket mentioned, with the lock ring. 10x11.25 lug pattern, same as the LMTV combat wheels....
