Pull that cam out and put somethin smaller in it. Youll be happy you did.

Just cause it sounds badass dont mean it wont run like a dog.

ill stick with my cam i might try something different later but right now im more focused on building my 383 stroker, this truck wont be drag striping its just a street truck that sounds aggressive and to me when your 0-60 is around 6.5 seconds when the tires are hot and on asphalt with no wheel spin thats good enough for a street truck to me.

This right here is why you should swap in a cam that's at least a little more mild. Wild cams in a street truck suck. You can have a truck that's much more fun to drive and still have some amount of lope.

A 260 cam would do the trick...even stock TBI cams have a nice lope...especially with no cat in the exhaust.

i still have the 274/284 Crane Energizer cam that i can put back in it. i mean it more off the line power from an idle, and if you set the carb just a bit rich it would give a nice aggressive idle

here is a video of that 274 cam when it was in there

yes i know its not that fast i have 3.08s in the rear major power loss and the carb and intake are cheap they are starving the motor so its not put out what it can do the motor its self has alot of power but a 700R and 3.08s are going to make that rather weak

i accidently got a intake i can put on it today but i wanna bigger carb to go with it and im not sure if the take i have posted a thread on it it would help alot i think

More intake and more carb isn't going to help anything. In fact, it will probably hurt it.

I went with a XE274 from comp. It lopes nice. Has a nice choppy idle around 900 rpms. Im stock stall with what I beleive to be 3.73's (50mph reads around 80mph) and its trouble if you stomp it from idle.

I beleive the 700R4 has a lower 1st than a TH350 dont it?

Bigger carb, bigger intake hurt tq #'s also......

I have a 355 with around 9.8:1 compression an a performer rpm intake with a 274 cam and longtubes and Im runnin a 600cfm holley. Runs real nice. I could probably up the jets a number or so.

XE274 is really not all that aggressive of a cam. Should have a little thump to it, but not past being streetable at all. Probably about the max I'd want to go to be streetable with a 2200-2400 stall or manual trans but I've gone with a rough idle 305 duration .510 lift cam before and drove that in LA traffic, with a 3000 stall before. I did have to deal with heat issues too. Biggo radiator, flex a lite fan, and an electric fan, and still ran 220 degrees, and built the trans every year because heat would kill it quick even with a big trans cooler.

Youll like the lowend. Its a heavy truck. If it was an S10 or somethin I could see movin the range up.

What are the specs gonna be on the 383?

i also have a 1983 C10 with TH400 and a 12 bolt posi with 4.11 in the rear now to put this motor in, Im going to go get it this evening when the guy calls me. the motor thats in it is a 454 bored to a 488 with some goodies in it already but the man said he couldnt remember what all was done, lol so it will be pulled and gone through and more than likely be going in my girlfriends 1969 Camaro SS her dad gave her.
