GM in my opinion when they get something right it gets killed off, and then they open up a new mistake.

I thought about possibly doing that or maybe taking a 3800 from a Camaro/firebird. But I think I’m going to be going with a LC2 1986-1987 GN engine swap.

Naww, don't do the Camaro/Firebird 3.8. That's a Chevy not a Buick. As in the 229 v6, not the Buick 231 v6.

Naww, don't do the Camaro/Firebird 3.8. That's a Chevy not a Buick. As in the 229 v6, not the Buick 231 v6.

4th gen firebird/Camaro is the Buick engine it’s a series 2 I believe

Right. I believe it was used in the F-body starting sometime in the '95 model year, replacing the Chevy 3.4 v6. The 3.8 was the only v6 offered in the F-body from '96 through '02.

Right. I believe it was used in the F-body starting sometime in the '95 model year, replacing the Chevy 3.4 v6. The 3.8 was the only v6 offered in the F-body from '96 through '02.

Correct, I bought a early 3.4 I believe from a 95 firebird for a Fiero project one time. I think I will either be using the original 3.8 block or a 4.1 block as the later buicks from the research I’ve done would needs custom mounts and all of that. I think Im just going to keep it simple for now

I'm talking earlier. I was thinking since it was an 80's car, you were using an 80's Camaro/Firebird engine. I think it's from 80ish to 85ish and was a Chevy 3.8 229 IIRC, total different animal than the Buick 231 3.8. I like that older Buick 231. I had one of that 80 Monza, a Buick 231 Even fire. Wanted it for an off-road buggy project. Well you know how that goes. All my projects are pipe dreams. Ended needing some cash and sold the even fire 231.

speaking of 3.8s. My 81 231 score... building for my 79 grand lemans 400 hp the stock heads are rated 210 hp max @ 120 cfm... I'll be using 84-87 turbo v6 heads rated @ 250-275 hp @ 180 cfm, along with light-weight aluminum pistons, vintage Edelbrock intake, a 390 cfm carb, and some 2.25" headers.

Pimp kyle is tha name & Buick V6s & GM V8 Diesels is mah game. LOL

that is the one huge misconceptions people have between the Chevy 229 V6 and the Buick 231 V6, the Easiest way to tell the difference is CHEVY has the Distributor in the Rear (like any) and in the Buick, It's in the Front. :)

Anyway, It took me close to 3 yrs to find a nice Buick 231 V6... Complete & Running I have gotten contact from a friend who sold his 79 Grand LeMans 4Dr to a guy in Ohio who has it now the car is PHS Documented with 54K orig miles, 1979 Buick 231 V6 (Even-Fire) with the Highly unliked TH200 Transmission which is what I'm looking for... If the Project "400hp" 231 V6 Goes south I'll go back to "basic" old school tuning... Carb/Intake & Exhaust.

The one I posted is a 1981 231 V6 with 147K on it, Supposably a VIN Model "2" Eng which was only 1979 "California Emissions" So I have yet to find out if it's actually a VIN Model "A" Which I need or a "2"... Anyway it has a POS TH350 "C" Meaning 81-87 With Electronic Lockup converter, My car doesn't have that being a 79... and the TH400 in it right now with the V8 I'm told is a "Power Sucker" And Ofc never came in the G-Bodies, But mine being a 1979 It's Technically an A-Body "78-81"

I've had people argue with me and tell me Chevy didn't make a 3.8 it's a Buick engine, that Chevy made a 2.8 and I'm confused. :happy175:

No I wouldn’t use the Chevy 229, I have two Buick 3.8s sitting in my basement right now but doubt they’ll be used for this car
