I bought a truck a couple of days ago that does not have cats and really not looking foward to installing them but missouri inspects for them. Does anyone no a place that will go easy on this truck or a way to get around this?

In addition to the cats, is there anything else they look for in the Missouri inspection? My truck does have cats but the engine was replaced and all of the rest of the emissions stuff was removed.

My state has inspections and those 'friendly' places don't really exist any more. If a car is stopped for any reason or in an accident and something is found to have been missed by the inspection it's trouble. The shop who issued the sticker is fined and suspended from doing inspections. The car owner can also be given a ticket for the violation as well.
I failed (technically rejected) for exhaust before because the truck was straight piped when I got it.
As far as ways around it, you could always move.:)

Over here near Saint Louis they don't give 2 ***** for the most part. If it is 1996 or older it doesn't need an emissions test. My 76 I took the cat off and all of the emissions equipment and it passed safety inspection without any issues. https://dnr.mo.gov/gatewayvip/v-owner/need-test.htm
@Old77 might be able to shed more light on this as he lives in Kansas City which is a lot closer to your zip code than me, but it should be statewide that older than 96 doesn't need emissions.

This is why I stick to smog exempt vehicles. Being beat up over 40 year old equipment sucks.

What year is your truck? Some trucks don’t need cats to pass inspection in, Missouri.

And what part of Missouri are you in? If in the KC area I’ve got a PM ready to send to you to help you out ;)

Some of these inspectors have a God complex. Like if they let you slide for something minor you will be the cause of a massive pileup and it will be their fault. There is no chance that the shop can or will be held liable if a violation is found. The shop will deny any wrong doing and claim you illegally modified your vehicle after you left the shop.

I got failed in PA once because my high beams didnt work (hid kit) but I had a set of hella spot lights behind my grille. They got their inspection fee and I took it to a lick and stick shop. Guess what, my truck never blew up or caused a wreck.

In NC a vehicle 35 years or older doesn't require inspection. That makes us old Squarebody owners happy.

In CA it has to be 1975 or older.

Unless it was originally a diesel. Then it can be as new as a 1997 with no smog or inspection.

A lot of guys get diesel reg’d trucks, then do whatever they want engine-wise.

Thats pretty cool because it changes with the times. In PA its 1974 or older. Now if you do a classic registration (at least 15 years old) you no longer need an emissions sticker (if you live in an emissions testing region). Antique registration (25 years or older) is exempt from emissions and safety inspections.

The laws in PA are crazy because the county north of me doesnt require emissions but mine does and I live about 10 minutes from the county line lol. I guess pollution stops on top of the mountain.

i have a place that straight up doesnt check anything. ive stood next to them doing the inspection. they get the VIN my address and info and the year of the car. then they tell me to hold on while they go get my new sticker.

my buddy goes to another guy who will pass everything of his because my buddy owns a jeep lol. the inspector is a jeep guy so he helps out other jeep guys even on vehicles that are not jeeps.
