As I was trying to figure out why my dome lights don't work I came across this above the headliner. Is it factory? (The styrofoam insulation that is)

Then I found this under the dash. It looks like a little speaker. No idea what it goes to though. Any ideas?

Isn't the little speaker looking thingy for the key buzzer?
No idea. Didn't know they had them in '78. My other 70's trucks didn't have them

May be wrong on the key, could be seat belt. I know I've seen them somewhere(old and forgetful)

Not sure on the foam but the speaker is the seat belt chime.
Interesting. Well I know it doesn't work, and I have no wires going to my seat belt.

Interesting. Well I know it doesn't work, and I have no wires going to my seat belt.

Unlike women, those 48 year old buzzers eventually keep quiet.

Its probably more like a turn signal flasher with a little metal filament to trigger the sound and its probably worn out by now. Does your truck have a seatbelt light in the cluster? If it does i'm willing to bet the buzzer works in conjunction with the light.

My '78 Burb has a seatbelt buzzer and I'm 99.9% positive there's a light on the dash too. If I had to guess, there's a timer built into the little buzzer unit, because I notice that sometimes it buzzes longer than other times. There's also a plug-in on the driver's side seatbelt, so when you pull out the belt, the buzzer goes off. That wire leads to the buzzer... I would guess.

But that's just speculation based on clues. I've never looked into how the system works. It's just kind of 'there' and I pay no attention to it.

There was a youtube video of this guy that changed such module on his old Volvo to play Toto's Africa. Could be one with Lynyrd Skynyrd on it?
