Hello all. Just wanted to introduce myself and share my story. My love affair with the square body GMs started 25 years ago. More specifically the love affair with the square body suburban's. My parents had a 1986 GMC Sierra Classic 1/2 4x4 with the 6.2 diesel. Have lots of memories riding around in that truck and getting my feet wet with turning wrenches and learning about diesel engines. Fast forward from there and I bought my first square body when I was 17. It was a 1990 Chevy suburban 1/2 4x4 with a 5.7. I did a lot of work on that truck and absolutely loved it. I drove that truck all through tech school but sadly sold it when I learned our first child was on the way.
I then found a work horse of a truck that I needed for plowing my drive way and hauling firewood. A 1986 Chevy M1008. I still have that truck and it runs like a champ. Less than 100k on that one since it lived most of its life on an airforce base moving around radio equipment.
And finally I recently purchased my new project truck. It is a 1988 GMC Sierra Classic R2500 with a 5.7. I got really luck when I found it up here in Wisconsin. The owner bought it in Arizona but drove it up here about a year ago. The body is in wonderful condition but it will need some TLC on the interior. The Arizona sun and heat did not do it any favors. I added a picture of the truck the day I brought it home.
Looking forward to passing on the love of these trucks to my son whom is now 7 which is the same age I was when my parents brought home their first suburban
Thanks for the wealth of knowledge that is available on this site and I will update any projects that I get completed on it.
