My preferred method of taking the window crank handle retainer off, is to use a small hook tool to grab and just jerk it out. It works pretty quick without damaging anything, everytime I've done it. Here's a pic of the tool I'm talking about:

Did you know, the galvanized ashtray can be polished to a bright shine? A bench polisher and a fine abrasive (Tripoli). It’s an easy way to put a finishing touch on the interior
