My current project

Thanks for the welcome,

Yeah i love these trucks, i always wanted a 1 ton as they came back in the day when u could order them from factory single axle a ton with 454.

I bought the white truck when i was 18 and it had a 1 ton frame, but only had 1/2 ton running gear. I started and got all the white truck stripped and sandblasted the frame put new stainless grade 8 bolts and a new 8" BDS lift then poxy painted the frame / 205 gear transfer case and turbo 350.. so should keep clean.

Then 2 years ago i bought a blue 87 chevy 3/4 ton but light duty with a 454 / .30 over with a mild cam. I also bought a dana 60 from and 14 floater rear running 411, i have a 205 and 203 that i want to put a devorce kit. It took a long time to get everything but it's comming together.

I'll keep pics updated as it moves but it's a long project

I have a front clip from and 86, that I picked up years ago, that's when I found out the new clip won't just bolt up, and I can't find anything on line about how to do it.

Go to CK5.com and look through the technical articles on the home page. There's a guy who upgraded the original front clip on his 78 or 79 to an 82 clip and then he upgraded again to the dual square headlights. He maps it all out for ya.

Nice Chris !!! Welcome to GMSB. So other than the mini quads and bushwackers, do you always travel with a stunt double? The other trucks obviously buddies of yours or are the others yours too?

That's the best way. It sucks having to hold back because of the unknown and noone to pull you out. Only way to push it to the limit is that have someone else to help pull you out.

I've seen guys stuck stuck stuck that had an 8000lb winch and 100 feet of cable. A winch is great, but there isn't always something around to pull off of.

I was stuck pretty bad last year when I broke the PS stub shaft in that hidden mud pit, my 8k ramsey was actually pulling the tree down lol. The guys that hooked it to the tree had it about 3 feet high, I moved the choker all the way down to the stump and used a snatch block and hi-lift jack to get out of that mess. Fortunately we run in packs too so I had plenty of help but no other truck pulled me out, the winch did.

EDIT and i know what you mean about nothing to hook it to, which is why I carry more straps, chains and a come-along. It's not quite as bad around here, lots of trees but there are some flat, open areas here that I can see where you'd be fuct.

We do the same on 2 of our tow trucks that we use for pull outs. My roll back winch only has 100 feet, so I"m good for about 75ft, but I also have lose 21ft right off the bat for the length of the bed, so I actually only have about 50ft. That means I can do winch outs on those who are stuck on the roadside, but that's it. The other conventional trucks are dual winch with 200 feet with the boom lift and they also carry 4 one hundred foot sections of winch line with loops on the end of it. They are actually about 10 feet short of the 100 since we put about 18 inch loops on each end, and usually lose the first 5 feet or so since our extra cables are previosly used and broke winch lines off the rollbacks. Bossman just did an AT&T truck that was over 500feet in a field and did use all 4 spare sections and left just enough winch line to keep it from coming off the winch spool. It was out there !!!
