Lawn mower stator

Anyone have any experience with replacing one? Picked up a husqvarna mower recently for a whole $40. Only issues are the deck is missing, and it won’t charge the battery. The good news is it’s identical to my current mower, so I can move the deck over to the new one and swap the stator out too. The transmission on my old mower is on its way out. But I’m not sure where the stator is. Anyone have a clue? I believe it’s a Briggs and straton motor.

Should be on the flywheel. Probably have to take the shroud off the top.

Edit: Im guessing. Its where mine are on my go kart and mini bike engines

I'm going to preface this by saying I've had an awful lot to drink so hopefully this will make sense. There are a number of different stator configurations, but all the ones I've seen are all mounted on the flywheel, most are on the outside of the flywheel, so you'll remove the cover and it'll be right there on the top of the motor, typically the coil is mounted on the front of the flywheel near the plug or plugs and the stator in the back. Simply remove, reinstall and gap to specs, if no spec on gap anything like an index card or business card will be close enough.

Is the engine the same? If so,did the donor have the same lift mechanism for the deck/engagement of the deck (some do it by height)?
The one with an electric PTO is gonna eat your donor if it didn’t also have an electric clutch. They handle more amps

the stator is musically under the cowling and in the flywheel arena of things yes.

What engine?
The lift mechanism and attachment is the same. Both are husqvarna mowers, everything is pretty much identical between the two except one came from a dealer, the other looks like it came from Lowe’s. Old mower has an intek 22Hp Briggs and straton, new mower has a 23 Hp Briggs and straton. Also, the “new” one has 500 hours and is in way better condition than my old one with 875 hours.

The stator/alternator is probably under the flywheel.

The intek is garbage. Is the newer one also a intek? If it’s from the same lineage it’s probBly the same stator then generally too

If you’re going to be swapping a stator I recommend while you have things open at least taking off your valve covers and doing a valve job but I’d pull the case open and see if the camshaft has plastic gears or worn parts.. but if that I too far, at least a valve job will help extend plastic internals

Yes, both are intek. Probably not the greatest, but they do carry the B&G name so there’s that. The first mower was free, I’ve got $40 total in the second one. So $40 for two riding mowers, I think I came out ok. I feel like the parts are all interchangeable.

Good point, I’ll look into that.

Oh yeah I doubt a good deal. Infact I would use em both till they are trouble or grenade and then swap a different probably older vanguard or Kawasaki before they got sucky etc. basically whatever you could find that had the same crankshaft output even if it was lower HP. I don’t live residential so that exact situation would mean a different engine of same power or just making it #5 of the riders

we have two John Deere one with a 26hp liquid cooled. And the other is a 20hp. Both Kawasaki.
The old 1988 white we have is a 16hp oppposed Briggs
The other older white from the 60s is collecting dust and 10hp Briggs (gonna make that one a toy and make it nice as can be realisticly)

the skid steer is 20hp Koehler k series. Anyone with an old tractor probably knows what a k series is. Single cylinder ones were the king for a number of years

Flathead go vroom until it bogs down from the oil it’s burning

Beings I have a pull behind finisher that has a garbage dime a dozen 5hp Briggs I was gonna use the white to pull it since it’s got no use. No deck. The original is who knows where and the makeshift mechanism someone tried to make a craftsman deck work was.. I’m not gonna even try. Since the utv I pull the pull behind with is too fast and it has a belt the white can weather that with a hydrostatic trans. Maybe it won’t break the welding repairs on the pull behind. Lol. Grandpa should have bought a brush cutter not a finishing mower…

The newer of the intek if you knew dates would probably if not the same year or 3, be improved internally. They had to warranty one to many I think
