A friend of mine was parting out his '82 k10 6.2L shortbox. I only want the frame and box, nothing else! He got tired of dealing with people, so he stopped selling parts off it. It still has the cab, box, engine, axles, etc. My '86 k10 4.3L has better gearing, good cab (needs new corners) and new doors. Also, the '86 bed is TOAST, so i was going to buy a southern one, but this '82 has two fuel fillers, one on each side, so it might be kind of cool to keep...

Would it be bad if i just scrap the '82 cab, engine, axles, etc? I think the cab is in better shape than mine, but i don't want the hassle of selling it. If someone wants it all, i'll sell it together. But i'll already have to take everything off the frame myself now, and don't have the time for it. I just want it gone...

Also, what would be a good price that i should offer him? I offered $400 when i thought it was just the frame and axles. But now that i know it has the bed, i don't know what to offer... He said $400 was too low for everything. Again, i only want the frame and box...

Scrap em all, I already have mine.

The thing's were mass produced 5 or 6 days a week from 72 until 87. There's plenty out there.

And plenty out there not to be dealing with all those shenanigans.

If he's not willing to sell at a price you're willing to pay, move on.

the diesel axles would be great for someone doing a 4bt or 6bt swap. If the cab is better than yours, and you want the frame and box get the whole truck and swap your axles and engine in?

Really? I can find long boxes all over, but i'm having trouble finding a short box (bed and 4x4 frame), at a reasonable price. Maybe i haven't looked enough? I'm also nervous of passing up on this, as i feel like my dad's old one is sitting and getting worse every month that goes by... I just want to get working on it...

I like my cab more, sentimental value. My cab corners are just pretty bad....

Around here the bed is worth 400 and so are the frame and axles, cab is 200-500 depending on the amount of rot.
Buy the whole package and use what you want and get rid of the rest.

In Michigan frames are way easier to find than cabs lol.

All I'm saying is, it's not worth fighting over. If he thinks he has a gold mine, let him pan that stream.

Imho, any part that's useable should not be scrapped. Every part will be needed by somebody, someday... but I realize that it's not always possible and things will always get scrapped.

I used to hold onto all sorts of parts. I had spares upon spares. I finally decided space was more important. You may want to try selling some of the stuff, with a drop off date. If it does not sell by then, put it up at a stupid low price. If it does not sell after a week, scrap it.

What it comes down to is do you have the time and patience to sell parts, or do you want/need space?

I have scrapped things and ended up buying another one, so it has bit me in the ass too!

Another thing to think about is if he wants more money for the truck than you're willing to pay, he'll tire of it sitting on his place and proceed to scrap it at a fraction of what he's asking. These greedy morons! I just don't like them.

The guy has been super friendly to me! He asked me what i think is fair, but i'm super dutch, so my price point might still be below his price point... HAHA He just messaged me this morning and asked if $500 is fair, and he will deliver it. It has the cab, 6.2l engine (doesn't think it works he said) short box, rolling chassis. I don't think that is a bad price! He did say the box has a dent, but it can definitely be fixed. I think i might need more pictures of the box, to see if it is worth it. I really only wanted to pay $300 for just the frame, then buy a clean southern short box, later on. So with these extra's, it will cost me an extra $200, plus will take me a lot more time to take all of the stuff off, and will take up space as well.... I'm kind of leaning towards passing on it... He needs to have it gone by August 1st. I think he could definitely get $700-$800 for it! Thank you everyone for your advice, sometimes i just need to think this stuff through out loud.

If you are willing to pay 300 for the frame and then buy a bed dont they normaly go for 4-600? And he will deliver it for $500 sounds like a no brainer to me. Hell I sold my 10bolt rear axle for $100 if you can be patient you might make money on this.

Right, i guess it'll depend on if we have the room. We already have my wife's '95 wrangler in my garage(city lot), that i'm slowly working on. Lots of house projects still, we had to gut the house when we bought it last September due to mold. The '86 truck is at my grandma's (lives in the country) and she would like it gone, so having two vehicles there (well, 1 1/2) isn't really an option... Doors are $369 each through brother's trucks and i was quoted $1,200 to have the cab corners fix. So i kind of feel like i'm getting ahead of myself with this, and letting it become an emotional purchase, because i want to get the truck restored.... Being an adult is tough sometimes.... haha

There's very little on these trucks that someone won't buy. If your going to need parts later you may as well figure your going to have to do the swap eventually so why not just pay the extra $200 and have it delivered. You'll have all the parts you need to do whatever you want and can sell off leftovers after your project is complete. Having the complete vehicle will yield dividends when you realize you need small parts, bolts, etc. that you didn't get when buying parts one at a time. I'd go for it. You may very well make your money back and more when your upgrade is done. Just my opinion.
