Thanks back at it tomorrow , Started it up no check engine light went for a ride ran great no check engine light
Turned it off checked for codes yep still there

it will store codes for about 30 starts. but if the code came back after your parts replacement, and may be intermittent, that seems to point to a bad connection or maybe a wiring issue somewhere in the ICM harness.

PROGRESS: Removed the Distributor, ICM was loose, checked wires, Disconnected the ICM Plug Wires, Blasted it with electrical contact cleaner , and the Tan Brown connection used to set Timing.
Went for a few short drives, No Engine light, No Stalling!

Well I Quit!
Cleared the code and went to go home about 10 miles at 8 miles felt a slight hiccup, engine light came on stayed on parked in the driveway turned the beast off checked codes hoping it was something new! Nope *&^%$^* Code 42 but it runs great, Started it up back to shop no engine light? Runs Great,
Question does the EMC have to clear the code on its own gmbellow stated bout 30 starts. I am going to run it and see what happens,
In the mean time will check wire from the ICM to ECM

if it hiccups and the light came on, the code was set again. clearing codes can be done by disconnecting the negative battery terminal. but it sounds like you have an intermittent issue. check the ICM harness up against the firewall to make sure nothing is rubbed through. check to make sure no plug wires are touching those ICM wires. check the main harness across the firewall for rub through on brackets (cruise control and MAP sensor). you may also check the ECM harness plugs behind the glove box to make are they are tight, although more likely the issue is under the hood. something you are messing with seems to temporarily remedy the issue so that it is fine for a while until you hit bumps and drive and then the bad wire or connection does its thing again and throws the code.

Would it be easier to just replace the wires rather than mess with a 34 year old wiring harness ICM to ECM
ECM plugs are good
I will check the short run to the firewall and for plug wires that may be too close.
The large harness is behind the engine almost impossible to reach

you could pigtail a new ICM connector in, sure.

the large harness is a pain to see., but I had a small spot that rubbed through on the cruise control bracket that caused me headaches with the ECMB circuit. a bright flashlight has helped me find rub through because the wire is usually very shiny. so check the obvious tight spots at brackets, sharp corners, etc.

also check the EST wire to make sure it didn't rub through anything where it comes out of the harness. and check for continuity (maybe intermittent, so a hard kink or broken wire that usually makes contact but under right conditions loses it, etc)

You'll get it Mango! It will be an ah ha moment. I've been looking at connectors that need to be replaced vs new wire harness. Price and screwing something up seems a bit intimidating vs fixing. Hope you find it!

Not a New Wire Harness, Just two wires ICM to ECM
Solder or butt connectors with heat shrink

I believe this simple trick can and  will make your squarebody experience much more enjoyable PLUS! the quality of your life WILL. IMPROVE !

Some of the best part? It is both cheap and easy. I wish I would have thought about it sooner.

First you'll need some scissors or a blade....then procure yourself a roll of electrical tape. The standard, black , general purpose stuff is preferred. Last I checked it was about $0.19 cents a roll but that was under Trump. No tellin what it costs now.
Can you swing it? Got nineteen more cents?

Next-
Take your scissors and cut about a inch and a half of tape off the roll. Make certain you cut it nice and straight.
Then-
Sit behind the steering wheel in the driver's seat...and put the piece of tape you cut over the check engine light.

Voila!

Fixed.

Watch your stress melt away and carry on as usual.

This is why I'm glad both mine have carbs on them. Although I'm about to chunk the Eddy on the 84 and replace with a new quadrajet. No check engine light for me! Hope you get it fixed.

Think I Got it, Changed the Tan/Black by pass Connection
and secured the tach wire that may have been grounding out?
Cleared codes 16 mile test drive no service engine light
