I could rebuild it, but it is a lot easier to just get another engine and swap it in.

I have this Mint 194 I6 that I bought for the cylinder head that I could swap in.

The issue is that I would probably get lynched if I did so.

I am now looking for a new engine.

Maybe another 250, or even a 307 sbc.

Screw 'em. Put the 194 in! Lol

I like the 250 route though.

I like the 250 route though.

I like the 250 route as well. Then he's back on the road quicker, has the same setup as before, and has an extra 250 that he can rebuild and have as a backup just in case.

I like sixes, I say if you happen to run across one, a 292 would be an excellent little upgrade, or paint a Ford 300 six orange and most probably wouldn't even know... or just stick with a 250 and do basic hop up

I had a 250 in a '81 Custom Deluxe that #1 piston went bad. I was driving down the highway at 60 mph and all of a sudden, there was a noise like a compression release being engaged. I didn't have a clue what the problem was but limped it home for 60 miles doing about 45 mph. When I got it home, I did a compression check as it sounded like a valve had burned up and found 0 psi on number one cylinder. I pulled the head and saw #1 piston had a hole dead center approximately 1 " in diameter. I dropped the pan, pulled the rod/piston assembly, checked for damage, there was none, bought a new piston, rings, con rod, bearing, checked clearances, reassembled and ran it another ten years before I sold it. Never had another problem with the engine at all.

Run a Inline 5.

the only real reason it runs bad is because those valves continue to operate.


try it and see for yourself
wouldnt he need to balance the crankshaft externally?

The valves operating kill the engine vacuum and waste gas gas gas gas gas gas gas gas gas

I'd be interested to know the MPG change and guarantee this will be a noteworthy result for little effort AND IT's FREE.

I actually did that on a Ford 300 that broke a rocker stud on a road trip from New Orleans to Detroit in the middle of the night. Pulled the pushrods and plug on the bad cylinder and drove it several hundred miles. Replaced the head when I got to Detroit, and everything was fine. Of course I didn't have burned up piston particles floating around in the oil.

The smart move would be acquire the other 250, and install it. It's nice having a spare engine laying around that is apples to apples what you have in it already.

One of my two auto mechanic MENTORS from back in the day has or had a 1965 c10 with a 6 in it that ran as a five forrrrrr maybe five or six YEARS. All he did was pull the rockers and pushrods - kept goin.

I KNOW it'll work.

Maybe I should try fixing the piston with JB Weld, see how long it would run.

It came from a '72 Nova, and I don't even think that the valve cover has been off of this engine.
