Ok, some will call me the antichrist or at least a blasphemer for the non-stock resto I'm doing to my truck. When I got it, it was a basket case and in retrospect, I cannot prove that even the drivetrain was original. Wiring: totally hacked. Axles: hacked. Brakes: JY/hacked. Even the heater core was bypassed and steering column was wrong. What I got was basically a sort-of running rust free truck. It was stripped to a bare frame and powder coated. Starting at the beginning. I seem to have collected all the new badges for a Silverado, but its a Scottsdale, so no chrome trims, aluminum panels, etc. Kind of like the black belt molding better anyways.

Anyways, changing the color too. Paint is solid but original / tired. If I go 2-tone (would like to), I need a bottom color to go with the dark blue metallic. 2 look like a bronze-ish. Not sure if the colors appear like this from a reflection - cant find the codes that look anything similar anywhere. They both claim to be 1985 and 1987 colors.

The blue one.....just looking for that dark gray. Any ideas or leads would be appreciated.

There was a similar color on the mid 80's Z28's - had a yellow stripe IIRC too. This may be the one - will have to find a sample. Dunno.

For DupliColor, DSGM-347 was really close. I had a bunch left over from my old Celebrity and used it on my old '86 Suburban. DupliColor has since changed their number system, but iirc, the cans still have the old # listed too.

Is that the color on the trailered car or the lighter gray on the burb? The blue metallic I am using is really dark. Looks almost black in the shade then blue metallic in the light. IF I go 2 tone - would love to $ permitting - just trying to find something that would go with it. Lighter gray might be ok, but in my head it sounds like white socks with a black tux.

The medium gray on the Suburban. It was all peeling and spot primed when I bought it, so I sprayed it with all my leftover Celebrity paint. It was super close to the original gray, which was still on the tailgate.

I think it would look great with the dark blue.

Was it a metallic? No idea what a non-metallic bottom would look like with a metallic upper color.

Yep, metallic. I never put clear over it to bring out the metallic, so it wouldn't look out of place next to the original black paint.

Hi Doppleganger.
The only info on paint/trim I have is from the 75 data book. I ll attach the photos from the book anyway.

Sorry to harp on this.....in 86, this color shows up:
15, 9332, WA 9332 Medium Gray Metallic

Does this look like it?

The paint store will be no help......they'll say "old color - here find something close to match it."

My truck is non metallic dark blue with metallic light blue.
Factory colors. Even though the dark blue was also offered in metallic.
I had similar concerns and thought hard about doing both colors metallic.
IMO it doesn’t look weird.
It’s whatever look you want, though.
Ultimately, it’s not really a cost issue for the secondary color because you only need a quart of base coat.
