I have only called 1 yard, they want 250.00 for my ratio.

I think i need new pinion bearings, as there is about 1/8" side to side slop. I thought it was just a bad seal, until i pulled on it. There is also my whining noise under acceleration, which would make sense with that much slop to me.

So i think at this point my options are
1: replace axle, with no real idea of condition of the axle (not that i know much about mine either)
2: replace pinion bearings. No idea how or how to set gear lash or preload. Im all for trying it though and learning how.

$250 is the going rate here too. I'd spring for it ask about an extended warranty

Is it not worth it to try it myself or is it not possible?

Thanks. Now for logistics of how to get it home. Do i dare drive mine 4 hours round trip to pick it up.

Also what else do i need, or can i just transfer my brakes, etc over?

Sorry, misunderstood i think.

Worth it to just swap the rear end out or worth it to replace myself? I would like to learn how.

I know i would need a beam torque wrench and a dial indicator, but if i will spend more on tools/parts I'm not sure it will be worth it

Right, but then again the new one could go out and i would be back to square one. How common is it for a pinion bearing to go out?

Now often at all. I'd say try building yours back up but you have to be spot on with a couple things. I'm sure the guys here have some input on that....

I wonder how good the harbor freight dial indicators are, they get decent reviews.

Definitely open to more input. I looked through the 14b rebuild thread, theoretically doesn't seem to tough

I told them to pull it. Will be easier at the present time for me. I guess i will end up with a parts axle
