Hey fellow Squares,my name is Chuck and I'm from Louisiana, lived here almost my whole life, except for when I was an Air Force brat,I'm retired/disabled merchant mariner, spent 22 years as a "brown water" sailor, most of those as a deck officer (mate/captain/master).I've been married to my high school sweetheart, will be 37 years this August,She's the sweetest woman and the world and has my back, giving me total support on my many mostly stupid projects.
Currently I'm working on a 78/85 ssb 2x.The 78 is pretty rusty so we swapped the cab from my 85 lwb.Pretty much every nut and bolt has been replaced, and or cleaned up.I even dropped the front crossmember so it could be better cleaned and painted,I live out in the woods on a dirt road so,yeah.Bemt up all new brake and fuel lines, all new bushings and such, new tie rods balls joints ,3" Belltech drop spindles and 2" drop springs up front.I've got a flip kit for the rear, probably gonna have to go that route to get the ol truck level.Making progress but it's slow, too dang hot and no a/c in the shop.Plus my back is pretty much shot, that's another story in it's self.
My experience with square bodies goes back to 1982 whan I bought my dad's 81 short step,Pretty much a stripper,no a/c no ps pb tilt cruise ets.250 six and a 3 on the tree,3.08 12 bolt, green on green with factory white spokes!Good truck, shoulda kept it.My one and only new square was a 1984 GMC Sierra Classic, total opposite of Big Green.5 liter 700R4 ps pb tilt cruise a/c rally wheels etc.I had a $1500 all Sony stereo set up in that truck would make your ears bleed!
And a bunch more squares over the years,Kinda figure the one I/m building now will be my last.I'm also building a 1981 Camaro Z28,last year of the 2nd gens,I dont lack a lot on it,finishing the interior and some odds and ends. It's a sbc 406 with a TH350 10 bolt rear with a 3.08.Rebuilt the motor trans and rear end myself, should be a fun car,
Didn't mean to write a novel here, just wanted to say hi.Looking forward to chatting with y'all down the road!
